    Pros

good benefits, great people to work with.

    Cons

50-60 hour work weeks. You will do EVERY job there all week. You will host, be a dishwasher, and a grill cook you are on your feet for most of the week. Labor is the bottom line not the customer.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you really care about the customer then stop having us cut the employees so there job is not done and your managers whom you want to go to every table, watch labor, do prep lists, do figure 8's to check up on all categories, help seat guests, clean the bathrooms and front of house, mop the front and back of house to get the employees out earlier..and the list goes on....come in and actually see what is going on in your busy restaurants and cut some slack on labor. You talk about the guest is number 1 but bottom line is number one. It is say one thing and do another

    Pros

Food is good and 50% if you eat during break. The few employee who actually do their job are great people!

    Cons

Management was terrible. Scheduling was a mess. You had to fight tooth and nail to get a more than 1 day off, and the schedule was really inconsistent. They would schedule you on your normal days off without asking or informing you. They took advantage of good, hard-working employees, and let lazy slacker employees get away with murder. Employees would often just flat out not do their job or not show up to work, and wouldn't even be reprimanded.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Appreciate the good employees you have and stop letting the lazy one do what-ever they want.

I have been working at Bob Evans full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

I've worked at Bob Evans for over eight years now.. I started out as a busser/dishtanker, then trained as a hostess, server, cook, KP, shift leader and I'm now a MIT. I've moved up the ladder pretty fast. I'd recommend this company to others looking for a job that could possibly turn into a career.

    Cons

Health benefits are crappy. The fact that seasoned servers are only working weekdays and not weekend when they should be working is a bit dumb.

    Pros

Camaraderie, opportunity for steady income/tables. BE is so massive name marketing and name recognition alone will draw customers. So, there is a steady influx. For the most part most BEs stay busy. Managers try to do the best they can for employees, but also remain within the tight restrictions placed on them by their corporate bosses.

    Cons

For the most part, corporate decisions seem to sacrifice the customer and/or the employee to favor quick, easy profits. For example (1): A computer now (for the most part) decides your schedule, and hours are disseminated at the whim of a machine. Therefore there is no consistency in scheduling your workweek. You won’t get the same days off week after week, unless you specifically reserve them off, potentially upsetting your boss. So the computer is able to mange labor costs, but at the expense of the employees. For example (2): BE no longer employs bussers; servers are expected to buss their own tables. So, BE is able to lower labor cost, but at the expense of the customer, who now has to look at tables filled with dirty plates, and the employees, who now have to work much harder. Just a couple examples; there are many others.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop worrying about your share price; start worrying about your diminishing customer base.

    Communication of what's expected

    Cons

    Hours are long

AGM expected to close 5 nights with little sight of GM at any store I've worked at
Coaches and managers are being hounded because of corporate mistakes point the finger at yourself for once!
Bonus is a joke corporate does their best to make it impossible to make any money off bonuses

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The bakery was a mistake and so was the costly remodels.
Pay staff better you will get more quality people.

    I worked at Bob Evans

    Pros

Overall considerate to their employees. Very customer oriented. Strong push to care first, money second.

    Cons

The company has been changing. Some are great positives utilizing current technology. Some negatives have been a cheapening of some of the food. Higher prices.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I was a general manager. Going to manager meetings, getting to know other managers, a lot of you should be fired. Lazy inconsiderate incompetent people.
