Current Employee – been working at Bob's Discount Furniture
Pros – they give a lot of priases and kudos
they pay well for entry level positions
they offer sick days, 401k, and vaction days
new positions are avalible often
the co-workers are nice to work with
Cons – you have to take a 30 min unpaid break a day for an 8 hur shift
in my position customers yell at you all day, everyday
pevious managerial experience really doesn't matter there
comments and suggestions are brushed aside
Advice to Senior Management – offer employees the option to work 4 10.50 hour shifts, employees will call out less
shift changes should be offered to those with senority first, while new hires should be made to work closing shifts

Pros – Bob's management team wants everyone to succeed. They will do whatever it takes to help you be successful in your job. If you are willing to learn and give of yourself, they will do whatever they can to help you make it.
Cons – Some of the departments that are part of the operations of Bob's are not run as smoothly as they could. There are some inconsistencies in following procedures, but progress is being made.
Advice to Senior Management – The management team at Bob's needs no advice from me. They are the best that I have ever worked with and I am proud to work with all of them.

Former Employee – worked at Bob's Discount Furniture
Pros – It was a nice work environment. ( if you like furniture that is..) The pay was reasonable. It could have been better for my job title, especially being that office employees were at a higher pay grade than warehouse employees, while for the most part the office employees did next to nothing all day while we broke our backs in the warehouse. There is no fraternization policy, though it is frowned upon, employees can mingle outside of work with no consequence. ( My girlfriend is currently an office employee ) There were some great amenities such as the never ending free cookies, ice cream, candy, COFFEE!!, ice tea / lemonade.. The employee discount was more than fair being 30% off with cash and 28% off with credit. And here's a little secret.... All merchandise in the warehouse waiting to get shipped out to a pit can be purchased by employees for 50% off with a few kind words to management. There is an "open door policy" there. The managers will listen to what you have to say if there is a problem at home or if you have something on your mind that is really bothering you and you need someone to talk to. They have an EAP ( employee assistance program ).
Cons – Some of the problems I had with the company were, for one, they switched the main systems while I was an employee and they did it too fast. We all had gone to training, which was paid and your mileage was reimbursed, and before they launched SAP they changed some main portions of the program and never trained us on those additions. We were using GERS, which is slowly dying out, and moved on to SAP, which is known world wide and can handle larger inventory bases. But we had launched within a day, which was too quickly, and the company was scrambled for over a month. We had constant complaints from customers saying that they never got their delivery, or had received the wrong merchandise. We had thousands of orders canceled company wide. The compensation for errors made on customer orders was very little at a whopping 5-10% off your total order with the exception of delivery fees being split per piece of merchandise at that point. Our shipments were too large for our store. Regardless of how many times we would tell corporate that our store can't handle the shipments that they are sending, we would still receive the same size load every week. There was too much furniture on the sales floor, it was getting to a point where customers had a hard time walking through the store looking at furniture. If you are in a wheelchair in my store... You are SOL. There is also no real communication company wide. Nothing goes anywhere, resulting in nothing getting done, then resulting in unhappy employees.
Advice to Senior Management – LISTEN TO YOUR EMPLOYEES!!!!! you know.... the little guys. You may "run" the company, but we actually make the company run. WE do the work, WE deal with the customers, and WE are the ones you want to keep happy. Not just your wallets. With out us, what would you have? A company name. that's all. WE are the ones who keep the company promise. Nobody high up in a corporation ever thinks of Bob the dishwasher and if he's happy with the dish soap. Or Joe the warehouse guy and if he has the supplies and resources he needs to get the job done anymore. All they ever seem to think about is....... that's right MONEY!!! It's just simply GREED. You have it, it's not going anywhere. But it will if you don't check on Bob or Joe every now and then and make sure they are happy.

Pros – They have free cookies and coffee. It helps a lot because you cannot afford to actually buy a cup.
The benefits package is really good. The image of the company that is peddled in training class is wonderful except its not even close to the real deal. If you ever need help with anything certain superiors actually laugh at you for not knowing it and dodge showing you any answers. I'm pretty sure they actually don't have any answers themselves.
Cons – The corporate customer service department which you depend on as an employee is horrific. The delivery teams cost you a lot of headaches and hassles. The dress code is absolutely unnecessary, selling a $399 sofa does not warrant any one to dress up beyond shorts and flip flops.
Advice to Senior Management – This is rough. There are several that are amazing then you have your bad apples where you cannot figure out how this person ever figured out how to tie their shoes in the morning. You're a manager of a furniture store... why the ego? You're not curing cancer or anything important.

Pros – Some of the manangers, some of the coworkers, the pay was ok
Cons – The way they ran the call center. Customers have to wait a hour to get in touch with you. Very crappy furniture, alot of complaints. Bad managment. Very clicky. I think Bob's is a joke of a company.
