Pros
The management is very organized and practical. This company stands for amazing things. You truly get to feel good about the work you are doing. The people who you work with are wonderful I have never experienced gossip or caddyness.
Cons
There is really not a lot to complain about. The pay is pretty low and there is not a ton of room for growth. Also when it is not holiday season part time employees get ten hours a week at most.
Advice to Senior Management
The leadership at the body shop is truly amazing. I have felt nothing but respect and real help in growing and doing my best.
Pros
great people to work with!
Cons
management is not so good, they expect the sales associate to do way more than what they should do. the pay is not all that great.
Pros
Great products - even though I no longer get the employee discount, I still use the products.
Fun environment.
Great company values - the Body Shop is known for being ethically responsible and does great work with charities and public policy issues.
Cons
While this may not be the case now, the area stores and the management in stores were in a state of transition. It made working stressful and confusing.
Advice to Senior Management
Be able to spot and groom talent. Focus on employee retention. Provide clear instructions for handling issues with store management.
Pros
Values driven, Community Service, Great employee discounts and benefits, Green Company, Innovative and body butters are fantastic and customers love it!
Cons
some areas do not have as much support as other areas, customers that do not know our values
Pros
great products, annual contest at Christmas includes part time employees, customers are not just looking for discounts. No required overtime for store managers.
Cons
I was dismayed by the changes the company made in marketing. Even though shop employees are not allowed to 'sell to the sale', anytime US sales started to trend down, marketing would announce a sale. Staffing is slowed down by corporate requirements. Too many stores are left under staff for too long.
Advice to Senior Management
I was encouraged to hear at a district meeting that management would 'have store managers backs in a case of manager-hourly staff disputes. I was dismayed to lose my own job in a dispute...
Pros
creative
never a dull moment
thinking outside the box is highly recommended
Cons
challenge with paying since our volumes per store are lower in a competitive market
Pros
You receive a great discount and are given five pieces of make-up when you first begin work. The customers are usually regulars that you become familiar with and the company is very environmentally and socially conscious participating in frequent and ongoing campaigns.
Cons
The pay is below the average, there is little room for advancement and unless you are a store manager or work in a large store there is not much chance of getting anywhere near a full-time schedule. I worked there for six months and never received feedback on my performance once.
Advice to Senior Management
Provide you associates with feedback regularly. Make sure you are fair in hiring when offering a rate of pay. It should be assigned according to experience and fairly standard.
Pros
Discount, Have/Stand for good ethics, Great program of community trade, no animal testing on products
Cons
Pay stinks, no commission only managers receive bonuses (that's why they push you so hard!)
Advice to Senior Management
Encourage teamwork...everyone should be team player. Don't have everyone in it for race of who's best.
Pros
Very Positive Company to work for, very good core values the company tries to follow. Customers were very loyal to the brand and really listened to the advice we would give them about the products.
Cons
Pay was very low for an assistant manager ($8.50), especially when my district manager told me i was the best assistant in the district and practically ran the store. Very poor communication between corporate offices and the stores it would take weeks for a paycheck to get corrected if there was an error.
Advice to Senior Management
Compensate your team with better pay and have a more organized way of making schedules. Also don't create a work environment where its all family members and friends working because nothing gets done.
Pros
I work at the head office and have done for many years. Being an international company, there is always something going on, making the work varied and interesting. Great people.
Cons
It is not always easy to influence decisions made by senior management.
Advice to Senior Management
A more open management style.
To me, it would make more sense to have one head office in West Sussex and not an expensive office in London. It would improve teamwork and decision making.
