Pros
Great team of people, great benefits and lots of flexibility in type of work that you can do within the company and where you can go.
Cons
Occasional fear of layoffs during economic downturns.
Advice to Senior Management
Great leadership, but the frequent changes in leadership cause additional work and confusion.
Pros
- A lot of different opportunities within a large company. Ability to change and improve processes around you for the better. Great pay and benefits that come with ability to move up within the company.
Cons
Being a part of a big company can make you feel somewhat like you are a small part of a very big organization so working on very specific tasks and working towards a specialty can be the norm.
Advice to Senior Management
Would encourage them to communicate more with lower level employees and do more to create a sense of unified corporate culture around the company.
Pros
good benefits, many jobs and locations.
Cons
worst pay in industry, hire scubs to build aircraft, "diversity" takes priority quality, low standereds and no respect for workers by managment.
Advice to Senior Management
pay the good experienced people to do the job right, the first time, with little error and stop hiring people off the street with no aviation experience and you wouldn't be 5 years and 90 billion dollars in the red on certain aircraft.
Pros
The medical/dental benefits are decent and the initial job training is OK. Relocation benefit was excellent. Certainly are all about promoting diversity in the workplace.
Cons
Very low pay here at the new Charleston site. Low morale and long hours. Have to work 7 days a week and tons of overtime to make up for the low pay. They've taken advantage of hiring overqualified workers for low paying jobs in the down economy. You have people with master's degrees doing sweatshop manufacturing labor at Wal-Mart wages, with little hope of advancement.
Advice to Senior Management
Open up your eyes to a huge pool of talent and over-qualified workers that should be in higher level position. How about more paid vacation time and sick leave. Think about the quality of life of your workers more.
Pros
Lower level job descriptions have high pay caps. Offers large amount of choices for career opportunities.
Cons
HR wont protect employees, Alternative Dispute Process doesnt work, glass ceilings, no recourse vs. abusive managers, layoff experienced employees
Advice to Senior Management
Deal with ineffective/abusive managers and employees, stop laying off most experienced and highly trained employees every downsizing, streamline communications
Pros
Benefits, Product, Process Oriented, Horizontal Structure
Cons
Advancement, Knowledge Sharing, Stringent requirement from FAA, Parking
Pros
I get to specialize and become a true expert in a given area, Boeing Co. Is very supportive in ensuring eveyone is properly trained.
Cons
I do not get to be involved in a project from inception to full product. Also, I am only involved in a small specilized area of the whole process.
Advice to Senior Management
None
Pros
Pay and benefits are good if not great compared to other companies. Opportunity to travel the world and get involved in future product development and strategy.
Cons
Very bureaucratic and process oriented...too big of a company for me. Promotions are very political and less to do with ability.
Advice to Senior Management
Fire most of middle management. Very old school and political...good old boy system that crosses various ethnic/sex groups.. Promotions based a lot on typical "brown-nosing"
Pros
Pay, and great christmas bonuses.
Cons
Hard work, very tired at the end of day.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep up the great work
Pros
The work/life balance is as great as any company in the United States. The pay is certainly not great but the benefits are among the best, in large part due to the company' size and presumed negotiating power.
Cons
Boeing is certainly not the place to be if you are serious about your career. It simply does not compare with firms like Goldman Sachs, McKinsey & Company, etc. in terms of career advancement and skill set development.
Advice to Senior Management
Boeing is limited in the quality of talent it can hire. The lack of prestige, high salaries, etc. do not allow it to recruit the best and brightest. Students from top schools like Stanford and Harvard will typically take positions at top Investment Banks and Management Consulting firms over a "has been" like Boeing.
