I have been working at Boeing full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

This company has a more diverse product profile than most companies in the world. They do meaningful work. They pay well. Their benefits are unmatchable. They seem to really take interest in their employees.

    Cons

Heavily processed oriented and being one of the largest Fortune 500 companies tends to cause changes to happen much slower.

Boeing has great pay and benefits, but definitely has a major corporation vibe.

I worked at Boeing as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

There are so many opportunities once you have your foot in the door with this company. The pay is competitive for all fields (engineering, business, etc.) and the benefits are amazing. Since Boeing is located throughout the world, there are many opportunities for travel.

    Cons

Leadership is very poor in some programs, and this leads to low morale. There can also be issues with job security if you are working in a defense program since the government often cuts funding causing programs to end or at least downsize.
Also, employees often feel powerless because their ideas are usually ignored. This is because some program managers have the attitude that people beneath them are not worthy enough to have any good ideas. (However, there are many programs that do encourage employees to be proactive).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I think the pay and benefits are great, but some "managers" make for poor leaders because they come from engineering backgrounds (dealing with people is not necessarily their strong point). I think people with a business or psychology background would make for better managers.

I have been working at Boeing full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Flexible time, intelligent co-workers, good benefits

    Cons

processes are going to kill your last drop of creativity. Not too much pride in personal work and technical integrity. Even interesting work becomes uninteresting here. Reactive rather proactive. Definitely not fun.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Change the processes and company culture. So many smart people to work with here, it's a shame. The key is to motivate the creativity, responsibility and technical pride in people.

I have been working at Boeing full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Boeing is an innovative company that has good growth opportunities, makes exciting products, has good pay and benefits and good work/life balance.

    Cons

Big company with a lot of processes/red tape - typical for a large aerospace company. Boeing has pushed to be more of an integration company rather than a manufacturing company which increases risk.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reduce outsourcing, keep the work in-house where it can be more easily controlled, will be higher quality, etc.

I worked at Boeing full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Pay was good, Most of my fellow workers were helpful. My group in particular worked very well as a team. At the end of the day we got the job done.

    Cons

Hours were crazy. The work area was not adequate. Boeing always looked for the cheapest building sites as possible. Upper Management were always interested in the bottom line, and not in it's employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Sometimes took bizarre stances because of politics and not good engineering

I have been working at Boeing as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Good pay, reasonable hours, and great opportunities to come back to the company full time.

    Cons

Working for a government contractor is full of red tape, the whole thing about big ships turning slowly... There was also a pretty limited set of activities for interns to network throughout the company, but Huntsville is a relatively small site, so most interns found their way around.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Put some more time into planning events for the interns.
