    I worked at Boingo

    Pros

Lots of Snacks, Weekly Breakfast, Providing Lunches and team activities.

    Cons

Executive Management continues to tolerate unqualified, incompetent and unprofessional Directors & Managers who have been with the company for a long time. – Some Directors/Managers do not understand how operate with structure or good leadership. There is mix of people who are very unhappy with the culture and others who are trying to uphold a positive work environment. The industry is very volatile and consistently changing every 1-2 years. Hiring leaders who can tolerate the changes & the stress that comes along with it and treat the staff with respect seems to be challenging for this company.

Salary is also below market rate for some positions for people who have years of expertise & degrees.

Definitely, No work life balance! The company states unlimited vacation time, however, this is really a ploy to get you into the company and not the case because your direct manager needs to approve your vacation. Most of the time you can't take any time off and I have had peers who never took any vacation days all year other than 1-2 days surrounding stat holidays. If you think you going to get 3-4 weeks vacation - it will probably never happen. In addition, when you do take vacation you are expected to be available by email/phone if you manager needs to reach you. This is definitely not a real vacation!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of the bad apples (leaders) who are making things worse for the other employees. Just because a person has been with the company a long time doesn't mean that they are still fit for the role and able to adapt to changes that the organization is evolving into.

I have been working at Boingo full-time

    Pros

Competitive salary for those working in the field as managers and engineers. Boingo gives us decent quality freebees compared to other companies in the wireless industry.

    Cons

Lack of leadership and experience in some departments. Unimpressive 401k matching. For a nation wide company that manages multimillion dollar projects and facilities, resources are severely limited

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Develop employee loyalty by providing resources, support and training to do the good well. Get rid of dead weight and hire more people in key positions. Do not over expand

I have been working at Boingo as an intern

    Pros

They have nowhere to grow. Their revenue will sink next year. Their airport wi-fi offering is not even working.

    Cons

The company sucks. They make you work 3 jobs and expect that you will be able to deliver quality. The executive staff is only driven by getting their bonus. Everyone there work like slaves. They are super stingy on adding resources to help you out. People don't last there. They get burned out quickly and leave.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Change your process. Agile is only a buzz word there.

I worked at Boingo full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Boingo Wireless runs a smart company, lean and nimble. There's no bureaucracy and every employee is a key contributor. You literally see the results of your own work. Boingo is well-positioned for hyper growth in this new world where EVERY device is now wireless-dependent and that's an unrelenting trend. Management has created a broad portfolio of services including Wi-Fi hotspots (+1M), DAS build outs and government services to military bases worldwide! Working here is what I call a resume-maker. You're on the defining edge of next-gen wireless technology and delivery from UX, ad tech, access, WLAN and 802.XX. The company vibe is the best part of working at Boingo. Everyone contributes, collaborates and it's a very matrixed organization so you're interfacing with all groups. Incredible planning sessions and tech discussions. HR is highly responsive and works very hard on programs to keep employees connected and having fun! Even the CEO participates! Everyone is rewarded with stock and bonuses, everyone. It's a Silicon Valley entrepreneurial feel with solid fiscal discipline. Just a great place to work!!

    Cons

You should be hungry to learn, contribute and be a strong team player. The company's too small to hide in your cubicle doing nothing! What you do matters!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Seems to me, management is doing great. CEO is very transparent and accessible, in fact all top management is - it's a very flat organization. Maybe some small roundtables with lower level employees to get their thoughts and input/concerns. Quarterly meetings are informative, to the point and entertaining. Did I mention that the company band performs!

    Pros

Some of the people are nice to work with, free soda, bagel Mondays.

    Cons

Don't plan to have a family working here. The hours are long with the mandatory overtime, and the hours late into the night and Saturdays/Sundays

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire management that has some experience.

I have been working at Boingo full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Boingo is growing like crazy -- into new verticals and markets -- which makes for an intense/challenging work environment. If you don't like to work hard, this isn't the place for you -- but those that do thrive at Boingo are supported by a fun, casual work environment, exciting problems to solve and tons of perks. The company leadership works hard to keep employees informed and is quite transparent with company vision and strategy.

    Cons

Its a relatively flat organization, so its relatively difficult to be promoted, though there is plenty of room for expansion of roles or movement into different teams -- although superstars are definitely rewarded for their contribution with promotion. As mentioned above, if you don't like to work hard, Boingo isn't the place for you.

    Pros

Competitive compensation, cooperative work environment, friendly and helpful coworkers, sr management that shares vision, direction, and performance on a routine basis with employees. HR provides many wellness and community outreach opportunities. Hard work is recognized and rewarded

    Cons

Though a good problem to have, rapid growth has meant many new people to integrate into existing and new processes.

I worked at Boingo full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Pay is decent, and there are little perks.

    Cons

For a small company, executive management is surprisingly insulated from the staff. Closed door decision making and a dislike for anyone who questions decisions. At the very top, folks who deliver bad news are not liked so bad news gets hidden. Mistakes are repeated because optimism is valued much more than realism. Don't see a good future for this firm.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start with a fresh senior team before it's too late.
