    Pros

Always things to do to stay busy. Guaranteed 40+ hours per week. The pay is somewhat decent for Grand Junction.

    Cons

The favoritism towards certain employees. 2nd shift ends when job is done, could be there till late hours of night. Hard to make plans with family. Suppose to be wholesale, but mostly retail. A lot of truck loads are pieces (or one piece at a time), instead of bulk. Makes loading take hours then get questioned why it takes so long.

    Pros

Wage is competitive, Benefits are better than a lot of smaller Co.

    Cons

Management is multi layered and Antiquated. Production workers truly receive no respect from Co. You are just a "body" to feel a "spot" you are expendable, and they let you know this. Micromanaged like I have ever encountered. Rumors run rampant and Management is just as bad. You can not miss any work, do not get hurt or you will be singled out until you break. This Co. Allows the bullies to run over other employees and lets "these type" of bullies to have the better jobs as long as they "report" their distorted view of what happens on the daily~ Horrible place to work but there are not many mills left in the area. You will be hard pressed to find a Happy, Content employee.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees not just the employees that are "the squeaky wheels" let your employees know what is going on. Ex: if your machine is going down, let them know. If you are putting in new Machine ask the Operators their opinions After all we are the ones running the machines. This is why you run into long term problems with new machinery, you don't find out what the TRUE needs are before you go to the whole expense of installing. The operators should be the first person you ask, instead we are never asked or even considered. Be more human. If you run a miserable place to work it backfires on you~ this is why you have Huge turnover even though you pay competitive. Take a page out of some of the newer Co.' Like Google, or Zappos. Maybe read Tony Hsieh book Delivering Happiness.

I worked at Boise Cascade full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Big Company, there should be good opportunity for growth.

    Cons

Big Company, too many political games.

    Advice to Management

To many political games. People in positions of authority are not qualified in the fields they manage. They have lost site of "The Customer Comes First." To many people in management trying to keep they're job, instead of taking time to understand how to do they're job.

    Pros

Boise seems to pay very well for the positions offered in the Boise valley.

    Cons

The debt load of the company has really led to low employee morale. Right now, this is the place dreams go to die.

    Advice to Management

You are only seen as a good manager by the quality of people working for you. Don't take it personally.

    Pros

This is an organziation that is desperate for current performance. As a result, if you can reduce costs or bring in significant volume today...emphasis on today...you'll be a star.

    Cons

The short term view and financial health of the company due to the deal done by the former private equity companies

    Advice to Management

They are doing the logical thing for the shareholders. We have to perform financially today before we get going. That being said, don't dismiss the feedback we recieve from customers, employees or vendors. You will loose key people if the environment doesn't change soon.
