    Boise? meh.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Boise, ID

ProsBoise seems to pay very well for the positions offered in the Boise valley.

ConsThe debt load of the company has really led to low employee morale. Right now, this is the place dreams go to die.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou are only seen as a good manager by the quality of people working for you. Don't take it personally.

Boise Inc needs to perform now!

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Vancouver, WA

ProsThis is an organziation that is desperate for current performance. As a result, if you can reduce costs or bring in significant volume today...emphasis on today...you'll be a star.

ConsThe short term view and financial health of the company due to the deal done by the former private equity companies

Advice to Senior ManagementThey are doing the logical thing for the shareholders. We have to perform financially today before we get going. That being said, don't dismiss the feedback we recieve from customers, employees or vendors. You will loose key people if the environment doesn't change soon.

Good pay and benefits, terrible communication from and among supervisors. (All across the region)

    Machine Operator (Former Employee)
    Medford, OR

Pros1.) The base hourly wages are great for the valley. The benefits package is fair as well.
2.) Many great people work at Boise. Great friendships can be forged.
3.) The work is fast and hard. This could be a pro or con
4.) Most of the management (superintendents and above) are competent.

Cons1.) While upper managers are very intelligent, compassionate, and motivated; the same is not always true of department leads and shift supervisors. In fact, most of them are nincompoops.
2.) Due to the short-comings mentioned in #1, a significant communication gap exists where operators feel disconnected from management and communication (all around) is so poor that it borders on incompetence.
3.) Very often, leads/supervisors pursue personal agendas under the guise of "safety" and / or "best in class".

Advice to Senior ManagementHold higher standards of your leads and supervisors.
Make more information public so people know what is going on.

Union and management at odds made for a bad environment. Promotions based on who you know.

    Grader (Former Employee)
    Kettle Falls, WA

ProsGreat benefits, great pay. The coworkers are great people to work with. People are helpful when they are needed. Everything is based on seniority as Far as other union jobs. I have never seen a lay off. Stay on the bosses good side and you'll enjoy the job. This is the best job for those that have no schooling. Can't beat the benefits.

ConsIn the summer it's very hot in the mill, well over a hundred with no way to cool off. Management will side with anyone in management over any employee unless there is absolute proof. Most workers won't take a side against management due to the possible repercussions they could face. Safety is said to be important but they will write up anyone that gets hurt regardless if it's the companies fault.

Advice to Senior ManagementLook at woman and men equally. Use those employees that want to advance. Hold your Supervisors to the highest standards. Promote those that have an education in the field. Anyone that is put in a supervisor trainee position should be respected by co workers. If someone has a complaint take it seriously,
