    Pros

I worked in sales for several years and enjoyed every minute. Boise has good people, high ethics, a good product, they treat their people well, pay and benefits at or above average for the industry.

    Cons

The paper industry is consolidating due to foreign competition and technology replacement. How many people write checks, use 3 part forms, or use copier paper as much as in the past.

    Advice to Management

    keep up the good work

    Pros

    Good work environment, open communication.

    Cons

Lack of direction, Strategic direction is only communicated among very top management.

    Advice to Management

Provide strategic direction to employees to get them to buy into the philosphy and vision going forward.

  10. Major problems in the manufacturing and business divisions. Exceptional managers and also downright horrible ones.

    Pros

Good support from IT, HR, etc. Managers are kept in the loop on most major corporate directions. Boise projects were meaningful and well supported for the most part. There are some well know "bad apples" that should not be employed, but they are kept on for their "Technical Expertise".

    Cons

Lots of turmoil in the mills. Mill managers and productions superintendents are fired or swapped out to lower positions at a dizzying pace. Good place to kill your career. IF you are looking to take a job with Boise, ask what happened to the person in the job before you. Ask how long your peers have been in their position. Ask how long the mill manager has been in place. In most cases, the answer will be less than 12 months. Boise has a long history of churn and burn in the paper division.

    Advice to Management

Stabilize your management team. There is chaos in the middle manager to mill manager levels. Boise used to have a great "depth chart", but you have burned through that long ago. Now you must rely on available talent from the market, and the market is becoming (rightly) wary of working for Boise. Ask any of the industry recruiters...

    Pros

Good capable people and coworkers. Product focus are in the right markets. Corporation is of a size that can keep it from being too bureaucratsc but can tend toward large company mentality

    Cons

No work life balance, no job security. You are either burned out or let go. There are Very few long term employees.
