I have been working at Bombardier Aerospace part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Large company that has solid training procedures in place. Not a lot of micro managing occurred within my group which was nice. Never worried about going to superiors with questions.

    Cons

Sometimes get lost in the shuffle since company is so vast. Not a lot of time was available from upper management for guidance at times. Although there is a instant messaging system in place.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Be a tad more available.

I worked at Bombardier Aerospace as a contractor (less than a year)

    Pros

Salary was quite good, despite the hassles with working at a company that makes one kneejerk reaction after another.

    Cons

Where to start. They are way too top heavy starting with the Montreal managers who act more dictators instead of managers who put you in a position to succeed. The company is so fragmented that one area will actively sabotage another in order to get a bigger piece of the ever shrinking pie. They are constantly going through layoff cycles and will let go of long-time employees on a whim. Nobody has any job security.

I worked at Bombardier Aerospace full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Company spent time and effort to make their employs feel special and need.
The company made if clear that their success was depended on us and how well we peformed our jobs

    Cons

Some of the managers made life difficult by passing their short coming down to those under them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would be worth the effort to give phycological exams on those being considered for manager and above positions.

    Pros

Good work-life balance. Good local management team in Des Plaines.

    Cons

Looking for any kind of career growth here? Forget it. Very small outpost of the company in Des Plaines. Also, it is an aviation/aerospace company so expect wild fluctuations in the overall business. And, yes, they do RIFs (we just went through at 15% reduction).

    Pros

The company makes great products and relocating to different states or countries is definitely an option after the first year.

    Cons

Human resources department seems to be getting more and more corrupt throughout the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start hiring people based on ability not based on them being your friend or not.

    Pros

Loved the people who work here. Developed many lasting professional relationships as well as friendships. Compensation was competitive.

    Cons

Many developmental errors in the program that cascaded down in the later stages of product development. A very difficult and stressful environment to work in. Due to the continual major design changes in the program, your best effort often felt squandered.
