I worked at Bombardier Aerospace full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Legendary business, and visionary Canadian family business, compensation is still on the high end of scale if you are an engineer.

    Cons

Mediocre management and yes boss culture promotes no integrity.
Minimum training and growth. Top management has been blind by sysmetic mediocrity. Too many hierarchy levels filtered out info required for good business judgement

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Where is your integrity and caring for people, once was the best of the company.

I worked at Bombardier Aerospace full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Exposure on resume...experience in aerospace. .. middle managers and supervisors and individual contributor employees make it enjoyable with the relationships you develop with them.

    Cons

Women will never excel in this organization... Many Sr. Managers focus on their own personal growth... absolutely no work life balance with 14 hr days as a daily occurance... zero onboarding process... lack of dealing with poor performers... little reward or recognition to high performers... turnover high especially in human resources... uncaring Sr. Managers treat employees like numbers instead of people.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on one plan and stick with it ... stop changing direction every year... deal with your poor perfomers and reward instead of bombarding your high performers with more... focus on your most expensive and precious asset: Your people!!!

I have been working at Bombardier Aerospace as an intern (more than an year)

    Pros

    - Personnel (for the most part) are smart, easy going, and down to earth
    - Pay and benefits are competitive
    - Work can be challenging depending on the department you work for
    - Excellent work/life balance
    - A good launch pad for your career

    Cons

    - Upper management is disorganized
    - Data overload: lot's of analysts and what not producing information that rarely gets used
    - Lateral movement is more attainable than role advancement
    - Younger employees (due to a wide age gap) are especially disadvantaged when it comes to career advancement
    - The culture is not an adaptive one: lot's of stubbornness among employees and management

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Commit to projects undertaken
    - Invest in younger employees to foster a culture of knowledge transfer and succession

I have been working at Bombardier Aerospace full-time

    Pros

Initially I had many opportunities to move internally, gain new skills and progress professionally.
Where else can you walk out of your office and TOUCH your product...especially if it is a $50M airplane?

    Cons

Executive management, are disorganized and slow to react to issues.
DREADFUL work life balance and terrible working culture
Increased focus on Francization means opportunities to progress to director level and above are few in Toronto as power is consolidated in Montreal

    Pros

Exposed to many situations you would not normally encounter, people are great

    Cons

Leadership direction is constantly changing, always jumping from one thing to another, never knwo where you are heading. Total boys club, unless you are male and speak French forget about advancing

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pick a business plan and stick to it for longer than 1 year

I worked at Bombardier Aerospace full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

It's a great company to recruit for. The calibre of people working there are the best I've worked with. The hiring managers were extremely impressive people! Everyone is very proud to be there as was I! Lots of long tenured employees. It's an incredibly interesting place to work!

    Cons

With any large company there will always be changes in process. There is process improvement but then there are extremes. If you like routine and are bothered with constant changes in policies and procedures, then this will be an issue. Lots of turnover in Human Resources.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Employees there need to take more vacation. There seems to be a very high level of stress and pressure and that can be relieved with more time off. Some employees under a certain pay grade are not entitled to take any vacation days during their first 12 months of employment and I found that to be strange.

I have been working at Bombardier Aerospace full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

After several years working at BBD here are a few positives: the benefits are great! The company pushes the envelope on work life balance and they work with employees with Flexible schedules.

    Cons

    Where to begin????

    1) Lack of foresight and willingness of senior management to listen to employees is crippling the potential greatness of this company
    2) Opportunities to envoke change are limited
    3) If you are not Canadian French, from Airbus, or have ties with familiy you can only go so high up the ladder (good old boy system of promotion)
    4) Salaries are far below comparable positions in the market place
    5) Yes man mentaility of management rampant
    6) Outside thinking not welcome although they claim it is

I could keep going, but you get the picture!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    1) Utilize employees skills to better the company
    2) Don't pencil whip the Quality System you push company side
    3) Drop the "Our way or the highway" mentality
    4) Grab ahold and foster those who push the envelope and challenge the thought process, it is these people that are going to take you back to the top!
