I have been working at Bombardier full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Great compensation, benefits package and work life balance

    Cons

Employees at the working level run the show because management does not address issues or even under performers. You would think it is a unionized environment but it's not. Some of my colleagues have major attendance issues and come and go as they please....yet management never addresses it..... its ridiculous.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get a clue! Be engaged with your teams. Listen with the intent of understanding and stop being so reactive and judgmental. Oh and BTW.....your so called engagement surveys are a joke. Nobody takes them seriously. People do not answer honestly, because in the end if they did, they would have more work to do, not management.

I worked at Bombardier full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Has the potential of a great repair station.

    Cons

Do not value experienced good employees. Did not give raises. Will not put money back into the company. Upper management is paid TOO well and they do not pay the ones doing the physical work. Not competitive with Gulfstream. Need to listen to the customer complaints and remove the management that are being complained about and that are competing for Bombardier's business.

I worked at Bombardier as a contractor (more than a year)

    Pros

    Plenty of overtime during holidays

    Cons

If you were to loose your A&P, it would be at this facility. I personally witnessed several near fatal accidents. One on take off and one at night during landing. Stories of prior disasters, deaths were kept quiet. Idiotic, useless safety rules. Poor use of technical publications. Rampant Nepotism. Noticeable levels of theft among employees. Below average intelligence of new hires. Lack of attention to detail. Poor interpretation of FAA guidelines and regulations. Inept hiring practices. Inexperienced inspectors. Non logical approach to standard inspection processes. Non compliance to Bombardier policy. Poor salary offerings to direct employees. This center will inevitably tarnish the Bombardier Corporate image.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

No more than two employee may be related to each other. A minimum of three years experience on fixed wing should be required. French Canadien blue prints are NOT American standard blue prints. Treat your direct employees and contractors who produce, as though they matter... Remember, its them, not you -who bring the dollars.

Great workers poor management because of favoritism and nepotism

I worked at Bombardier as a contractor (less than a year)

    Pros

Loads of experience. Friendly and helpful coworkers.

    Cons

The Challenger program has their mavericks and golden children. Contractors are not treated like a team. They are constantly sent good me when there is no work to be done. There is also a lack of mentorship with new hires starting out on the floor. Depending which lead you work for, you may have someone who is honest to goodness mentor. But if unlucky, you will work for a lead who expects you to hit the floor running and know where everything is located and know how to fill pit paperwork. Not to mention, k ow how to work the aircraft if you never had the chance to previously. There is a lack of accountability on training and mentoring. Somew leads do not care if you know the plane. They think if you can read the tech nmanuals, you can fix the airplane with little to zero experience. HR on the Business side of aviation shows favoritism and needs to get there's act together. They terminate contractors without a paper trail. There is corruption in the HR dept.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop playing favorites and GROOM employees. Stop the nepotism and favoritism. Also, if you want to get rid of someone, start a paper trail. Lastly, treat new employees (contractors or otherwise) with respect. And do them the favor on training them.

The real West Virginia air center

I worked at Bombardier full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Good work / time off ratio, decent pay (per the immediate area) , good people working the floor (mechs)

    Cons

the classroom training is a joke all the answers are discussed prior to grading, you could only fail if you wanted to!! There is no real on the job training, if your lucky you may get to spend one day a week with an experienced tech if your new. In all reality your expected to be able to perform any job there with little if any assistance and within an allotted time set by planners who have most likely never performed that task. The crew chief's are "bosses not leaders" and they are not working crew chiefs , they hand out jobs , sit at their desks text on their phones , and play on the internet , 7 out of 10 of them haven't performed a task in so long they are of no assistance to the mechanics working the floor, so you have to interrupt another mechanic to give you assistance. Most the crew chiefs are rude and unprofessional.
Supervision walks around with their noses in the air acting like there better than you, They are all located in the same office so you cannot get any privacy (while discussing something with your supervisor others will interrupt to put their two cents in , roll their eyes, etc. Advice and information is not clearly communicated nor excepted they rule with fear, they are completely out of touch with their work force. they treat people as if they are tools without consideration for personal factors. they are expeditors not leaders. In general the vast majority or the workers on the floor are fed up with the lies, broken promises and in general poor treatment and easily half are currently actively seeking employment elsewhere. HR is a joke, you could replace them with a rolladex, because all they do is say here is a number you can call , I have never seen such a collection of fake people who have no interest in helping you, just what's best for West Virginia Air center dba Bombardier. HR is known as "damage control " by most on the floor. I could keep going

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Wow, I don't know where to start . replace old faces with new ones from chad hill down , put current crew chiefs and supervisors back on the floor. the business has a lot of potential but not with the good old boy system in place

I have been working at Bombardier full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

If you are a hard worker you, you can stand out from the crowd.
There is always plenty of work to be done, you should never be bored.

    Cons

Management tends to let many people go along without producing anything for the company for a very long time, meanwhile the better employees get bombarded with work and struggle to keep up. However, most of the time, the ones working their tails off are getting the same pay or less than the ones surfing the web most of the day. This is one of the top reasons I'm looking to go somewhere else.
They also pay less than many companies would for people with a strong skill set. Oh, but they pay contractors very well, then bring them on permanently for a salary much higher than the those people that have been there 5-8+ years already and working their tails off to get a tiny raise each year!! (Another significant reason why I am looking to leave)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay your hard working, skilled employees what they are worth or their all going to leave.
Also, learn how to manage the employees' work loads to level them out.
Many, many people are looking to leave at this time and management doesn't seem to have a clue.

Great place to work, but should provide equal benefits to all.

I have been working at Bombardier

    Pros

Opportunity for advancement, casual environment, good work-life balance.

    Cons

US operations do not provide equal benefits to LGBT families.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Recommend reconsidering your stance on benefits and LOA policies so that all employees are treated equally.
