    Pros

Had an internship there for 4 years while in college, therefore I am biased; however i did enjoy all my time there as well as my position now.

    Cons

None that I can think of

    Pros

Resources, company commitment to excellence. Unrivaled product line in the transportation industry.

    Cons

Management structure reluctant to change. Sales department centralized and not present in high opportunity geographical areas of North America

    Advice to Management

Be tired of losing contracts and the lack of wins on Tenders. BT needs folks in high potential areas and be willing to utilize all of its product line in the U.S. DMU and the Zephyr are two under utilized products in the U.S. California High Speed Rail will happen, someone will be supplying 90+ train set in addition to the opportunity for O&M. Bombardier not entering the game shows a lack of vision and commitment to the North American market.

    Pros

The work environment is very diverse. The company has always support and provide good training program that relates to your role in order to be promoted in to the next level. This means the career opportunities are very open and well-organized. Working with many cultures colleagues and travel around the site in Asia, Europe, and North America would strengthen your skills as well as fun experiences.

    Cons

As work requires frequent traveling and contribute time on-call to fix the site problem, these two points may cause you difficult to manage the personal time.

    Pros

People there are definitely serious about work-life balance. You do your 40 hours a week and get out. It doesn't take much effort or skills to be of use there.

    Cons

Not a whole lot in terms of learning new skills or progressing your career though unless you jump around. It's definitely a stereotypical corporate manufacturing environment. Crappy cafeteria, mediocre pay, lots of old-timers who claw on to any form of job security. People aren't willing to try new ideas or move into the 21st century. I've seen both hiring sprees and rounds of layoffs within 2-3 years. It's not a place where hard-working talented individuals last very long.

    Advice to Management

It doesn't matter. You're either on your way out or figured a way to work the system and drop those buzzwords. "It's hard to stop a moving train"... or propel one that's slowing down ;)

I worked at Bombardier Transportation full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good place to learn many different aspects of maintaining and operating a modern rail system.

    Cons

Unrealistic expectations concerning maintenance of an outdated rail system that was not designed for northern winters.

    Advice to Management

Be realistic with maintenance goals. Don't rely on solely on overtime to keep up with increasing workloads. Hire more techs and be selective with who you hire but compensate them well.

    Pros

There are many opportunities to grow and try new things. Many processes are not established well or at all so it becomes necessary to personally take them on.

    Cons

Management turnover is extremely high and along with that comes loss of consistency and clear direction. The office space is also not well maintained which has negative effects on moral.

    Advice to Management

Higher salaries will retain better talent. More direct involvement from higher levels of management would make it easier to see some of the obvious deficiencies so they can be addressed.

    Pros

Mose colleagues are friendly, helpful, and professional. Never a lack of challenging work. Well-maintained facilities.

    Cons

So large it is becoming bureaucratic in outlook. Too much centralized control. Too focused on European technology and standards. Somewhat arrogant attitude by European colleagues, with a "one size fits all" mentality toward technical solutions. "Cubicle city" working environment is sometimes noisy and often distracting.

    Advice to Management

Decentralize control and permit more local flexibility to deal with local customers.
