    I worked at Bomgar

    Pros

Bomgar is rigorous in their interview process, but they offer great compensation, benefits and overall work environment should you make the grade. As a small company, they have a camaraderie not found in larger corp environments. This sometimes means one may need to wear many hats depending on the position. Overall the working environment is fun and casual.

    Cons

As a small company, advancement may be difficult as there isn't a great deal of positions to advance into. Product vision can appear short-sighted (1 year/2 development cycles) and can change quickly as importance is placed more on chasing competition rather than blaze their own path. This can make it difficult to communicate product vision both internally and externally, and can make it difficult to fully implement complicated feature sets resulting in features that feel incomplete or are released with insufficient quality. Regular maintenance updates address these issues, however larger clients tend to balk at regularly updating mission-critical solutions.

If you are a Christian conservative republican, you will feel at home with the prayers ahead of corp meetings, corporate values based on Christian tenets (though the same values may be stated without the religious focus) and political endorsements/recommendations from management via email. Otherwise you may feel a bit alienated as many who work here are like-minded in this regard, and share these characteristics both in and outside of the workplace (e.g., many attend the same churches, etc). Some in management are not particularly receptive to input that differs from their own ideas, and may tend to treat differing ideas as dissent.

I have been working at Bomgar full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Pay is very good, which in some cases may be due to the fact they are not only hiring top people, but have to attract them from out of state. You get full medical/dental/vision paid at 100% by the company for single employees. We have pretty much every holiday on the calendar, a very generous vacation package, quarterly bonuses based on sales targets, Christmas bonus not related to any targets, free catered lunch on Tuesdays. There is a general relaxed and convivial atmosphere, things get done and departments cooperate well (if you need help with something, you get it). Managers are pretty supported and mostly hands off (at least in my department), and weekly meetings are kept to an absolute minimum. You do your work, keep the deadlines, are are pretty much left to your own devices.

The culture here is the product of Joel Bomgar's vision for a company he started with just another friend roughly eleven years ago. The company website makes it clear that his Christian beliefs are the basis for how he conducts business. However, contrary to what one reviewer has said, I never felt there was any effort at making others believe one way or the other. The idea is that ethical principles are to be applied to business and the way you deal with others. And in his case his ethical principle are Christian principles. That shows in the way he treats employees and shares profits. But we have Indus and Muslims, and people with long hair and tattoos and what have you, and that is never an issue. In other words, this is a pretty open and tolerant place.

For the 10th anniversary of the company, the entire company, including the European staff, went to Disney World in Orlando for three days, all expenses paid. Not too many small/mid size companies are going to do that.

Salaries are pretty good, and benefits are excellent. Managers are open to suggestions and in fact welcome input. Things get fixed, and while there are issues sometimes, things run smoothly most of the time. All and all this is a very good place to work, with nice people, good benefits and where employees are seen as the most important part of the company.

    Cons

Nothing that really stands out. There is room for improvement in the way a few things are done, but that is to be expected.

    Pros

    Competitive pay
    Great benefits
    Awesome employee appreciation
    Up to date office technology
Nice, modern office space with free snacks and drinks

    Cons

Management of the product itself if great, management in other areas - not so much.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Just because someone was a good salesperson once doesn't mean you should promote them to management. Just because someone was a manager at their previous job doesn't mean they were a GOOD manager. Send you managers to annual training! Teach them how to make better decision. Take interpersonal employee issues more seriously. Do not keep bad or ineffective employees around for so long out of some perceived notion that you are doing the right thing or the "christian" thing by doing so. Realize how badly some former employees have hurt your company by following this philosophy.

    I worked at Bomgar full-time

    Pros

Very ethical organization with lots of good people - particularly in Ridgeland. Great benefits and HR is very supportive of any personal issues. SE team in particular is a great group of people - as is most of Operations and Support.

    Cons

The faith-based attitude tends to cross the line a bit but it's usually manageable. Tend to be too focused on "Solution Selling" when in reality the product is not a solution - it's a superb technology, but trying to use a Complex Solution Selling/Marketing approach is not the right technique.

Very little opportunity to be promoted and few senior managers are all that impressive. When you have a product that almost sells itself it's easy for people to glide

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't take so long to make important decisions - the last major change up in marketing took way too long, just as it did the time before that. Promote from within and don't assume that management is doing a great job just because salespeople are selling - Bomgar is a great tool and the SE's do a great job of selling it.

I have been working at Bomgar full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Friendly environment, management is open to all new ideas, FREE benefit package for single employees, tons of perks, good community involvement, problems get handled quickly and professionally, overall good corporate organization

    Cons

Due to the company's core values/religious views, sometimes "slackers" are allowed to stay around too long. At times, management tends to be too soft on people that really need some discipline. Also, the number of meetings that sales staff are required to go to can sometimes interfere with productivity. Sales management sets growth goals that seem too eager.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Let us become a BYOD environment. Your excuse for not doing so is a little pathetic and completely contrary to the goal of the only product you sell. Weed out bad employees more quickly. Don't lecture entire teams for the failings of one individual. Also, learn patience. One great sales year does not automatically predict excellent sales the next year. Set growth targets that are reasonable - 30% is reaching a tad bit in this economy.

    I worked at Bomgar

    Pros

Friendly and fraternity-like working environment. If you are a "brother", you are set.

    Cons

There are too many ad-hoc and haphazard management decisions that it is hard to find continuity and execute on plans with deep thoughts. These knee-jerk reaction decisions are conveniently covered by "fast-pace" business reactions, when in fact, they are resulted from an extremely inexperienced CEO and his "frat brothers" pulling them out of thin air and ego.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep person faith separate from the business and pray for personal short-comings before judging others and bringing political/religious agenda to the business meetings. The humble attitude doesn't work well when packaged in a stubborn self-righteous arrogance.
