I have been working at Bon Secours Health full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The Mission of the Health System is admirable and very motivating to feel like you can make a difference in the community. A major reorganization is underway to improve the governance and standardize the organization.

    Cons

Fragmented corporate governance infrastructure leads to disparate local markets processes. The attempts to centralize and standardize the management and delivery of the health systems are falling short. This forces local markets to develop programs that fill the gaps when faced with an immediate operational need and there is no defined solution from the home office.

When the local process are developed, the talent is not recognized for finding solutions but reprimanded for not following the central leaderships programs, placing a the resource in a "double jeopardy". This results in a devaluation of good people who are trying to do the right thing by creating solutions for immediate operational needs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create a management skills development program that mentors internal talent. Acknowledge the fragmented governance and process and recognize people for developing solutions when there are none. Improve management of people in programs that do not have solutions so they are not set up to fail. Instead council them on recognizing the gaps and lead their issues by escalation to senior leadership to prioritize a solution or approve local work arounds until a standard is created.

The most creative solutions are not developed by single leaders but collaborative of individuals in multidisciplinary groups. Good leaders recognize their teams talent, assemble them into teams, define the problem, allow the teams to develop solutions and then champion the ideas.

    Pros

Human Resources has a committee on the board of directors so HR is always at the forefront. Education and Diversity is core value of the company so they offer good tuition reimbursement and jobs for all. The typical position offers good work-life balance. Also, those whole can develop relationships with executive management will thrive.

    Cons

Those who expect to be reward monetarily through either promotions or incentive programs will be disappointed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide incentives for merit not just relationships or who hangs around the longest.

    Pros

    Room to grow and learn
    Great team
Corporate events were usually fun and well organized

    Cons

Compensation was poor, very corporate and slow to make decisions, hired as intern and position transitioned to FT, but no change in pay. Also team was unable to add appropriate position to department, so there was little to no recognition for work being completed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Direct managers were great, but higher ups were slow to respond and make decisions. Compensate your employees fairly.

    Pros

None, Closed Pediatrics, maturnity, Nursing home running @ 70%, cutting corners and losing doctors. Google them an see

    Cons

Ungratful group of administrators that have no interest in community. Losing money because of bad management

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Bring back the employees who served that hospital for 20 and 30 years you fired. stop the lawsuits against you for firing without cause, Lose the union you bought off. Bring back the Dr.'s that are running like a bunch of rats on a sinking ship. Get a in house emergency staff that admits patients instead of keeping half your beds empty. Fire the board and all your 25 year old no experience management. that no one respects

    Pros

The company has allowed me to get back in the workplace after a layoff. They offer benefits and plenty of other great perks.

    Cons

The department management where I started off in was a little inconsistent with their rules and allowances. Things we were told we could do when we first came aboard were rejected as we went along in the role. Pretty inconsistent...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't be so inconsistent when you find out someone wants to advance to other opportunities within the company.
