Pros
Turnover is so high, there is good opportunity for advancement. They build beautiful buildings. Staff who love seniors and will provide quality care despite the lack of respect.
Cons
Respect for employees is non-existent. Employees are expendable. Senior management has poor interpersonal relationship skills. Honesty? What's that? Commitment - doesn't exist. Promises - not kept. Owner seems to have integrity but is blind to the actions of his key players. They tell him what he wants to hear - not what he needs to hear. They make sure he stays in a rosy bubble, while the air outside the bubble is fetid with rotting morale.
Advice to Senior Management
Owner needs to dig a little deeper and do some undercover work if he wants the true picture.
Pros
Great people at community level. Opportunity to make a difference in seniors' lives. Benefits fairly good.
Cons
Senior Management is all about making money. They don't care about their employees or the residents. They don't know how to listen, therefore many issues are swept under the table. There is ALWAYS a shortage of help as they don't want to pay more people than they have to, so they work the people they do have into the ground. The turnover at ALL buildings is extremely high and unhealthy. One building went through 4 Executive Directors in the FIRST YEAR.
Advice to Senior Management
Remember what your mission is. LISTEN to the people who are in the trenches.
