Culture of the firm has evolved, but has been a terrific environment to absorb innovative ways of approaching problems.

Lead Associate (Current Employee) New York, NY

ProsThe firm allows for great amount of flexibility in how work gets done. For example, even though I am on an engagement that requires on-site presence, I have the ability to work with my leadership, who in turn works with the client leadership, to arrange flexible work arrangements.

ConsThe incentive model in regards to how individuals are able to grow will require greater attention. It seems to be hindering progress of this once great management & technology consultancy.

    Glacial pace of business

Associate (Current Employee) Red Bank, NJ

ProsThe work is challenging and the people are great.

ConsThe hoteling system is an epic fail. Why do fully billable engineers, who are the back bone of this office, forced to hotel, when other non-billable people and the business people get permanent offices? Without the engineers, this office would not even exist.

Employees are not encouraged to take chances to try and build something new. Most of this is a product of working for the government, but it can be stifling to someone who comes from a commercial company.

    Very hard to get promoted.

This office is not well connected to the DC area offices.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet rid of the hoteling system. Everyone hates it and it is an insult to people who are there everyday. Please be more honest about the future of the office. Nobody believes that there will be no reduction in headcount when you moved to a smaller office.

    Great work/life balance + benefits.

Consultant (Current Employee) New York, NY

ProsVery happy with the work life/balance, the benefits package is great compared to other places and so is the compensation.

ConsCommunication between upper and middle management is somewhat distorted at times which creates additional confusion that does not help us serve our goals.

    Advice to Senior ManagementLess bureaucracy.

    Good experience, solid employer

Recruiter (Former Employee) New York, NY

ProsBooz Allen Hamilton has a solid reputation among the top management consulting firms. My experience there is an important spot on my resume.

ConsThere is not much innovation within the company and many changes are simply stated, rather than discussed. Some adverse sentiment among staff.

Advice to Senior ManagementMore transparency for all staff. With the recent changes (split into Booz Allen vs. Booz Allen Hamilton), there were some blunders made along the way, but overall the organization remained intact.

A good place if you are into hard work

Senior Associate (Former Employee) New York, NY

ProsThe exposure to senior management issues and the opportunities for career advancement. Also, the comp is good, though not as much as some of the smaller firms.

ConsThe travel schedule can be intense and the job is very consuming, but if you are willing to make the trade off it can be a great place to make career progress

Advice to Senior ManagementThe best thing they could have done if to split the gov and private consulting groups into independent businesses. This was recently complete and now each side has control of its own destiny
