I have been working at Booz & Company full-time

    Pros

Good global foot print and a strong global brand. Solid history and infrastructure that allows the ability to build and grow strong teams

    Cons

Lack of strategic direction and unsure of positioning in the marketplace. What is preached is not really practiced. Lack of collaboration between strategy, ops and DBT. Little or no collaboration between practice groups.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn how to forecast so you don't cut 40% of your staff, then 3 months later try to hire back 20%

    Pros

Wonderful place to work alongside really smart people

    Cons

Reactive. Sometime narrow focus on revenue generation and eliminating people based on the slightest drop in sales

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't just Senior leadership who can sell - try to add new partners who can add intellectual value

    Pros

Challenging work, good set of colleagues at times and travel perks

    Cons

    Old Boys Club culture
    Business is very unstable
Little regard for people and their needs - this is not a place to have a long term career
Short sighted and incredibly arrogant leadership
    Did I say terrible culture?

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Put your ego aside and try to be a decent firm. Treat your employees like human beings and stop pretending you're anywhere as close to MBB as you think

I have been working at Booz & Company full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Client list, scope and size of projects
    Chicago office especially
Pockets of really good people and work

    Cons

    - In a lot of cases (but not all) the people who are still there are not the brightest--people with options tend to go elsewhere (although that is true of consulting as a whole)
    - Very little "people management" training, and it shows
    - Lots of talk about culture and development but it really depends on the team/partner

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I know of a few partners who bring in a lot of $$ but who see associates/analysts as expendable and work them until they quit. This is not the way to build employee loyalty and future client business. Our competitors don't tolerate this -- we shouldn't either.

I have been working at Booz & Company full-time

    Pros

Great experience to develop generalist skillset. Broad exposure to clients in diverse industries. Brand in well received in employment market place. Smart people. Less of a cult than McK/Bain/BCG.

    Cons

Culture is highly political, some of the people, particularly in the more senior ranks, are overtly "smart" but not terribly friendly. Sink or swim mentality. Late night churn valued over efficiency and work-life balance by many.

I have been working at Booz & Company full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Overall good firm with new CEO trying to put Booz on right path. When business is good -- plenty of opportunity to go around.

    Cons

Lack of scale creates knee jerk environment when utlization is low. Leadership manages business 8 -12 weeks out... several Partners on management team lack leadership / mgmt skills. Poor communication from top down. Firm is having a bit of an identity crisis.
