    I worked at Boral full-time

    Pros

Good pay in a strong, steady industry that has been here for a long time and will continue to be here.

    Cons

Culture of driving employees as hard as they can be driven without much concern for employee morale. Not a lot of effort placed on making a positive rewarding work environment.

    Positive Outlook
    Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

Offered competitive compensation package. Had safety as a top priority. Foreign financial backing kept the US division afloat during several down years. Constantly changing to adapt to changing markets.

    Cons

Management at almost all levels had very little business or management acumen. Many managers did not have experience or first hand knowledge of the industry they were managing. Often, managers would be heard saying they just hoped to keep their job. Product quality has slipped in recent years due to the attempt to produce the same products with cheaper raw materials.

    Advice to Management

Hire people who know the business and who have management experience.

    Pros

Good company, great new management from overseas steering the business in a better direction. Nice head office location and building.

    Cons

Older style of management and could have adapted to newer management thinking earlier. Management to slow to change and bad decision like selling Origin.

    Advice to Management

Adapt faster and buy cement trucks for the long term.

  10. NOT A BAD PLACE TO WORK BUT COULD BE BETTER FOR HIGH ACHIEVERS SEEKING A CAREER.

I worked at Boral full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Generally a good work atmosphere and culture. It's easy to get along with many of the employees from across the whole business. - Training is generally good enough to prepare employees for their respective roles. - Reasonable work/life balance.

    Cons

    - Pay and conditions for employees is generally not all that competitive. - Lack of genuine effort to retain the best or right people for the job as there is generally no incentives, bonuses, or any kind of rewards to employees who perform well for the company. - Sometimes a lack of equipment to get the job done and workplace safety is not always prioritised the way it should be. - Lack of opportunity to advance to more senior positions as many of the jobs within the company are 'dead end'. You've pretty much got to wait until somebody senior retires until you can be considered for promotion and competition is fierce.

    Advice to Management

Make a more genuine effort the retain the best people who perform well for the company such as providing more incentives to stay. Safety should be pushed more than what it is and is not always prioritised like it should be. A lack of career advancement for many employees should also be addressed. Despite the above mentioned, workplace culture is generally good and the training is generally good also. It's not a bad place to work but could be better for more higher achieving individuals who are genuinely seeking a career.
