    I worked at Borders

    Pros

Fun environment to work in with an amazing team of people. We always were learning new things considering it was a bookstore.

    Cons

Consider it is now closed, I would say that's the biggest con. Borders rewards was a scam. Upper Management seemed to be trying every method possible to save the company, but it was to late.

    Sucked to see it go

    I worked at Borders

    Pros

    Great people, fun atmosphere,

    Cons

Started off well enough but as soon as the company was going under, upper management started to implement changes to try and keep money: cutting hours, eliminating raises, laying people off, removing some benefits, forcing ridiculous policies. I can go on and on.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Too late to tell management anything now. The company no longer exists.

    Pros

solid field management, generous PTO and merchandise discounts, available, operational autonomy. Solid support from peer group as well.

    Cons

Inconsistent and reactionary upper management. Initiatives were often started and then abandoned before they could be fully implemented. Too worried about the next quarterly result and at the expense of long-term success.

    Pros

One in which I am able to provide my best to my work, develop professionally, and help my teammates accomplish the tasks.

    Cons

Provides services and solutions to various industry leaders in the field services. I'd be glad to develop myself with such a company in this prospective field.

    I worked at Borders

    Pros

My Borders team and I were like family. It took a special breed to thrive there and I am sad to see that it didn't work out in the end.

    Cons

Continual changes of upper management and unrealistic or dated goals. A failure to adapt to a changing market.

I worked at Borders full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Initially this was a great company filled with passionate employees who really cared about books, and the other products we carried. People who were committed to engaging customers and sharing their knowledge. Upper management had experience working in the stores and really worked to support the sales staff, the atmosphere was one of hard work in a fun environment.

    Cons

Once the leadership began a revolving door of change and the mindset became one of cookie cutter retail big box stores, the atmosphere became oppressive. Policies were applied with heavy handed rigor even though the company had lost its direction and sense of purpose. Borders went from asking, "Are you curious?" to attempting to force unwanted product into customers hands.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It would have been beneficial to actually listen to the employees, and the customers, before it became too late.

    Negative Outlook
