I worked at BorgWarner full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Good pay and benefits. The Annual bonuses based on plant performance have been very generous over the last few years.

    Cons

They absolutely do not care if employees are happy or not. HR is rude and won't even talk to employees (when they bother to come out of their offices). Don't bother to complain, you will be retaliated against, just take your beating and keep quiet. Too many layers of Management and very poor communication.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Happy employees would be more productive employees.

I have been working at BorgWarner part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Great pay compared to area locations for same job. Really nice staff / co- workers. HR was quite responsive

    Cons

Hireling of head guard was rushed and did not consider how that person would be as a manager. Turned out to be a disaster and the process was slow moving from HR. They were quite respectful of workers complaints however.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire managers who have worked in lower positions at this company rather than bringing in someone new.

I have been working at BorgWarner

    Pros

Excellent benefits package and generous 401K contributions

    Cons

As with any large employer, you can get lost in the crowd if you don't keep promoting yourself and your achievements

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management has tried recently to get more imput from employees through small group surveys/discussions, but there is still a ways to go. While their opinions are being heard, employees still seem to feel like their opinion doesn't really make any difference. They feel they aren't seeing any real change as a result of the meetings.

    I worked at BorgWarner

    Pros

The interaction with co workers. The ability to work on personal development. Rewards for performance. The Ithaca location has to be one of the best.

    Cons

You will have slightly flawed process. Customer driven procedure that can cause unnessary work requiremts. There is the potential for extended worked hours.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Most of the management I worked with did a great job. However, it took the auto industry downfall to cause bw to look at cost reduction. Cost reduction should have been a part of day to day operations before the downfall.
