I worked at BorgWarner as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

Support from the company was really good - housing provided, travel to and from site was paid for, and the access to management was fantastic. People are busy but really willing to make time and meet to hear you out. The training and initiation was also pretty thorough.

Also, if you're starting your career there, it seems quite easy to move around and work on whatever interests you, which is a big plus if you don't want to get stuck doing one thing or if you aren't 100% sure what you want to work on. Management tends to be quite young, so there are certainly ways to move up quickly if you're willing to put in the time.

    Cons

Communication between divisions, and even between product lines, could definitely be better. There's a lot of talk about each little group reinventing the wheel every time a problem comes up, but efforts to improve collaboration seem to be a little slow.

The flip side of the easy-moving and youthful management mentioned above is that there was quite a lot of internal turnover during my time, which doesn't seem to be atypical. The company is growing quick and moving, internally, even quicker.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The focus on speeding up growth is good, but make sure that the company can stand the pace without fragmenting too much!

    Cons

Limited opportunities for promotions, and some degree of lack of communication between departments.

Former Employee - Intern/Co-op in Seneca, SC

I worked at BorgWarner full-time for less than a year

    Pros

In my department, I could not have had a better experience. I was given projects that a full-time engineer would take on - an unmatched level of responsibility for an intern at any company.
7-3:30 shift gives you the afternoon.
Every employee reaches out to offer help and wishes you luck at the end of your rotation
Pay for an intern is good, not great.
Every full-time employee feels as though they are well-paid

    Cons

No structured intern/co-op program so each person has a different experience. Other interns had little to no responsibility and took almost nothing from their experience. It depends a lot on who your manager is.

I have been working at BorgWarner part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Great pay compared to area locations for same job. Really nice staff / co- workers. HR was quite responsive

    Cons

Hireling of head guard was rushed and did not consider how that person would be as a manager. Turned out to be a disaster and the process was slow moving from HR. They were quite respectful of workers complaints however.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire managers who have worked in lower positions at this company rather than bringing in someone new.

I worked at BorgWarner full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Was like family. Worked with and spent time out side of work with several coworkers. Supported education and family life.

    Cons

GM went bankrupt and so did 1/4 of the jobs on site. Mine was one of 22 that round. Really miss this job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Next time consider investing in the future not shareholder expectation. Diversify more and one company won't change your overall future success.
