    Pros

I made some life long friendships there. I learned a lot through hands on experience.

    Cons

It's a terribly negative environment. Because it is a union environment, most things are extremely fair, while others make no sense at all. There is no team comrade. You are only encouraged to stick within your own job description, going outside that realm is frowned upon. I much hated that aspect.

    Advice to Management

Learn to speak to your employees with respect, that's all we ask. Don't micro-manage so much. Find the real problems that are interfering with guest satisfaction and deal with and correct those. Know when to use your own personal judgement on when to bend the rules or not, remember that there are extraordinary circumstances in life at times.

    Pros

Can not think of too many. Overall,it is the worst employer I've worked for in my career.

    Cons

Rehab management does not have a clue how to manage. Two hour meetings where the three managers sit and gossip with each other about higher management. Employees are pitted against each other and are encouraged and rewarded to report on each other.
Health insurance requires that you only go to Borgess providers, which means that you get second rate care, due to the first rate care is provided by Bronson Hospital.

    Advice to Management

Grow up. This isn't junior high. You wonder why Borgess is consistently rated number 2, look at how it is managed at all levels.

    Pros

Friendly people.good place they care about their employees and their family members.

    Cons

They dont need to keep changing things.like taking away things we se to need.

    Advice to Management

Need to understand their employees a little bit more.not run out of important items.

  6. Viability concerns, union conflicts and ineffective senior management cause frustration and anxiety.

    Pros

At the operational level, people generally pull together to get the job done, and there was sometimes a feeling of camaraderie.

    Cons

True leadership is lacking, allowing conflict to build. Lack of funding means continuous cutback in all support programs.

    Advice to Management

Borgess Hospital cannot effectively compete in all clinical areas with Bronson. Make the major changes (and cuts) that are necessary to build a strong and viable (if much smaller) organization with a future. It's no fun working for an organization that's dying by degrees.

    Pros

Close-knit environment, competitive salary, it's nice to wear scrubs everyday, cafeteria, employee recognition, opportunities to pick up extra hours on other floors/hospital units.

    Cons

Union issues, a lot of lazy people work here in general, 3 day of sick time a year for a hospital employee is ridiculous, the hospital itself is dirty and not cleaned well despite attempts to improve environmental services.

    Pros

Work three days a week for full-time (12 hour shifts).

    Cons

    Constant nursing shortages every shift.

    Advice to Management

Hire more nurses so you don't burn out the ones you have.

    Pros

When I worked there, I created my own schedule to work. They hand you a blank calendar and you mark the days you want to work an 8 or 16 hour shift. You call them the days that you marked and they'll tell you if they have a room for you or not. Great pay as well!

    Cons

The only real downside I could see is that it's not a very steady income if they don't need you on a lot of the days that you had put down to work.

    Advice to Management

My supervisor was absolutely wonderful to me and all I can say is just keep doing what you're doing because it's working!
