I have been working at Borrego Solar full-time

    Pros

One of the best places I've ever worked. Great culture of hard-working people that care about the work they do, the people they work with, and the world we live in. Very flexible working arrangement driven by self-management and the ability to complete the work you're responsible for. At the same time, Borrego maintains an atmosphere of collaboration and teamwork that encourages everyone to be innovative and use their strengths.

    Cons

Could have cheaper benefits and higher pay , but couldn't you say that for every job?

    Advice to Management

Keep promoting from within, it is the strongest source of talent if you've got great people.

I worked at Borrego Solar full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Very talented group of people and very dedicated Great sense of team work Cutting edge work in design and installation

    Cons

Low industry pay Management does not seem connected to employees Hard to understand the direction that the company is going

    Advice to Management

Communicate more fully with the staff that are in the trenches Raise pay scale to match what the rest of the industry is paying Too much emphasis in company growth not enough emphasis in sharing the benifits of the company's growth with employees

    Pros

Smart team, great team oriention, flexible work arrangements

    Cons

Remote operations can make it hard if you aren't in an office to support your projects. Fairly technologically conservative - hard to push the company into taking smart risks in new marketplaces or with newer technologies.

    Advice to Management

Be willing to take some risks in project development to break into micro-grid space

I have been working at Borrego Solar full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I have never worked for a more trusting and transparent organization. It is so refreshing to know exactly how and what the company is doing. All of the people are top notch and super hard working. The executives are approachable and definitely walk the talk. All of these things build what I feel is the best company culture in the industry. Their industry reputation for quality work is well earned. This company is for those who want to do good work, work hard, and reap the benefits.

    Cons

They are lean and mean. At Borrego you are given both a lot of authority and responsibility . That responsibility at times can lead to a heavy load. While they are flexible, they also very process driven and so there is no short cutting.

    Advice to Management

I appreciate that they are generally conservative as it has led to our continued annual profitability. That said I think with more resources we could do even more toward accelerating the adoption of renewable energy.

    Pros

Borrego has assembled a fantastic staff of intelligent, driven individuals. The level of commitment and teamwork is exceptional and makes for a a fantastic work environment.

    Cons

Non Really. Typical growth problems and hurdles you would expect with a smaller company growing into more mature org chart. Hopefully the atmosphere doe not vanish with growth.

    Advice to Management

More disclosure of what is the future of the company.

Former Employee - Site Superintendent in San Diego, CA

    Pros

Solar electricity is an up and coming field and the work will continue for a long time. Borrego is transitioning from a small residential and commercial engineering, design and construction firm (EDC) to purely project management. Borrego was a good place to learn the basics of solar electricity and project management. A friendly work environment and good people.

    Cons

Management did not have training for any of the workers other than on the job. Manuals were not updated and no specifications were set in place. Designers were not field experienced. Some of the staff needed more training and field experience. Some of the field personnel did not have good quality control and attention to detail that had to be corrected by supervisors.

    Advice to Management

Have training for personnel. keeping your workforce up to date is the best way to stay competitive. Look at employees better and promote based on ability not longevity.
