I worked at Bose full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Satisfaction of producing high-quality products
    High quality of people
A strong sense of shared goals of solving problems
unusually high sense of connection - we eat lunch together, have coffee together, etc.
I've seen complaints of not being able to have coffee or food at your desk, but this forces us to meet together in the cafeteria, which creates connection I haven't seen in other companies.

    Cons

Politics / less emphasis on performance
    Very slow salary growth
    Limited growth opportunities
Becoming large, with many reorgs, lots of procedure

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Increase focus on recognition of accomplishments
decrease role of who you know

I have been working at Bose full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    good people and quality products

    Cons

no opportunity to advance, salary is very low comparatively, long work hours are expected

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

catch up with the rest of the IT world and pay women the same salaries as men in the same positions and/or same years of experience. I have only had 2 promotions in 15 years, and would not have received those if I had not fought for them. Meanwhile, I see the same names getting promotions every other year or so. My reviews were stellar when I worked for a manager who understood my job and was working within a group who all had similar skills and roles. Now I am getting mediocre reviews for the same stellar performance just because my manager does not understand what I do, and I am the only person doing this type of work in the group.

I have been working at Bose

    Pros

Great vibe at the company. Great people. It seems to be the type of company that is really flexible to your schedule.

    Cons

Seems to be pretty old fashioned. Progress can seem slow and there are weird rules like no food at the desk. Other than that, nothing really.

I worked at Bose full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Very laid back with money and time, putting the focus on quality of work. Currently a wealthy company undergoing a bit of a modernization. My supervisor was a great role model and I learned an incredible amount during my 8 months at Bose as a full time co-op. The leadership is very proud of their privately-held mentality, and are willing to invest in research and development that may not return profits for many years. Their products are almost all extremely high quality and well worth the price. A company with a great reputation that I was proud to work for.

    Cons

The inter-departmental communication and coordination needs work. Intern programming only occurs during the summer months.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Keep hiring co-ops and interns!

I have been working at Bose full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great benefits with the company health, dental, vision. Decent employee discounts on product. Makes a great product so as sales people you know you are getting the customer the best product for them that will last. Advancement opportunities for those who try and perform at a high level.

    Cons

They don't always plan out new product launches well forcing the in-store employees to have to shoulder the extra work to make sure it gets done right, while they loose the time and ability to sell and earn their bonuses.

    Pros

Provides opportunities for talent and recognizes smart work. You will be able to maintain work life balance here.
Manufactures amazing products and you get to meet like minded people to work with.

You will have opportunities to hone your skills and learn lot of skills.

    Cons

Senior management lacks vision for future!

Strong leadership is missing, with poor communication and coordination among various groups resulting into poor experience for external as well as internal customers.

I worked at Bose full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Good work-life balance, decent benefits, and opportunity for personal development. You can learn a lot about lean manufacturing working for Bose. The atmosphere tends to be relaxed more often than not.

    Cons

Very little patience for somebody green to learn the ropes. A bit of an old-school culture when it comes to speaking your mind and offering your opinions. i.e., don't do it unless you have a few years in the organization.

The company is going big-time corporate. The main focus of the company is shifting away from innovation and high-quality products to increasing the bottom line by any means necessary.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get back to your roots. Bose is not necessarily about having the largest profit margin; it's about innovating. You lose that reputation, you might as well shut the doors.
