Amazing career development experience but unsustainable work-life balance

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Boston Consulting Group

Pros- Steep learning curve on all dimensions, from soft to hard skills - client mgmt, communications, project mgmt, analytics, etc
- Exposure to multiple industries/functions and the way the business world works
- Working with really smart and talented people that are very driven
- It's honestly a career-changing experience

Cons- Work-life balance is very challenging to sustain, especially on travel cases. Most people leave after 2 years.

Advice to Senior ManagementThere has to be a better way of adding value to clients without having BCGers have such a terrible work-life balance. Given the effort you put into recruiting us, training and developing us, you should probably do a better job at retaining us and keeping us happy at BCG.

Associate - great place!

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Boston Consulting Group

ProsPeople, culture, cool cases! Everything is just really well laid out and super professional. You don't need to worry about anything other than doing well in your job - it is all taken care of. Also great focus on personal development.

ConsSometimes difficult to get staffed on the cool cases. I.e. staffing attempts to take your preferences into considerations, but at times client needs / BCG needs get priority.

Fast-paced, stressful, will learn a lot

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at Boston Consulting Group as an intern

ProsYou will work with very smart people and learn about different industries. You'll also constantly get feedback on your presentation skills. Recruiters at other companies will be interested in hearing what you did at BCG.

ConsThis can depend on the office, but the hours are obviously very long and I saw consultants with health issues due to overworking. The working environment can vary greatly depending on your client and the leadership on your team. As is true for any high-pressure environment, you will be expected to sacrifice life outside of work, and sometimes your health, to contribute fully.

Excellent learning experience at a company with clear values and excellent work quality

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
Boston, MA

I have been working at Boston Consulting Group full-time for more than 3 years

ProsAmazing people, challenging problems, fast learning and development, career acceleration, and fun culture. I really have enjoyed getting to know my cohort of other colleagues that started with me and have found some great more senior mentors.

ConsClient services can be inherently challenging, although I believe BCG does a good job to try to innovate and protect people's time when they can

Advice to Senior ManagementContinue to innovate -- excited to see some of the new ventures
