I worked at Boston Matthews
Pros – Interesting work, great guys to work with (on the shop floor). They warned me about the management when I started - I thought it was just blokes typically moaning about work but I was wrong. They were right.
Cons – Family run. Nepotism obvious. Management rude, abrupt and vindictive - very much an "us and them" attitude to workers on shop floor. No appointed Health and Safety officer. Little regard to Health and Safety issues. Induction a joke - no Personal Protection Equipment provided. Workers expected to provide own consumables! For engineering company to expect it's own fulltime employees to provide their own drill bits, masking tape, etc. to do their job is unbelievable. I've worked at many engineering companies over 25 years and I've never heard the like of it before.
Advice to Senior Management – Appoint a Health and Safety officer, then leave and get some real, professional managers in who value their employees skills and experience.
No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
