    Pros

Good company with a good mission.

    Cons

Awful, narrow minded senior management. Only care about cutting costs, don't care about employees or employee growth at all. Will erode vendor relations without blinking an eye as long as it saves money. Loyalty and quality means nothing to them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Fix the office culture.

I have been working at Boston Scientific as an intern (more than an year)

    Pros

Innovative R&D group willing to spend money on new ideas. Room to move up in the company. Lots of very long-term employees (10+ years).

    Cons

large company makes some processes take a long time. You can get stuck working with incompetent employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Compensation should be more performance-based rather than relying on set standards.

    Pros

People are awesome to work with and for. Med device is a very rewarding industry to work in because you're having a positive impact on people's lives. Company culture is evolving to give greater emphasis towards work-life balance and employee needs. Company also invests a lot in great training opportunities.

    Cons

Sometimes there are redundancies that create more work than needed.

I have been working at Boston Scientific full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The people are fantastic. There is high integrity in people, project management and processes - it's not just talk - it's the culture.

    Cons

Due to expansion and growth of the company, there have been necessary layoffs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Top Management has done a great job keeping employees informed of changes. Top management in San Jose might benefit from walking around and talking to employees 1:1. Regulatory Management has undergone great change and stability/ team dynamics does not appear healthy at this time. That may change as the team norms.

I worked at Boston Scientific as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

Working on products that help improve the life of people.
    Campus like work environment.
Location is an easy commute from Ventura County,SF Valley and Pasadena

    Cons

Everyone on the interview team seamed compartmentized. Limited communication between hourly and salary employees. Didn't see ANYONE smiling INSIDE the building. ONLY person I noted that was cheerful was the Security Guard at the main entrance!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Seems like there is a type of FEAR of mangement. An US vs THEM culture. Need to open up channels of communication between the two groups and improve the work flow. It seemed that there was a disconnect between what the interview team was looking for and what the leadership team off site was asking for.

I have been working at Boston Scientific full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good work life balance. But it's the only pro. I do like my team, but they are leaving one by one.

    Cons

Only promote those in the 'inner circle'. A person's experience or expertise has no bearing. In many cases, upper management 'leadership' has no expertise and no experience in the job. Intimidation from other groups who don't want to follow regs. No support from upper management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You must support your people! Hold people accountable.

    Pros

Benefits, salary, work atmosphere and great c0-workers.

    Cons

Company does not have employee loyalty. Company left 1800+ employees without a job and relocated to Costa Rica. Another fine example of a US based company leaving US workers unemployed. Complete disregard for the south Florida and US economy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Bring the jobs back home. The move to Costa Rica had a huge impact on south Florida jobs.

I worked at Boston Scientific as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

    1. Was able to gain a large amount of experience
    2. Lots of prototype & design work was offered
    3. One of the best reputations in the biomedical field

    Cons

    1. What you'll be able to accomplish is hit or miss depending on project timing and the projects management
    2. Seemed to be a rift between programs and upper management
    3. Seemed the only way to get promoted was to leave the company and return 1-2 years later

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look to the talent that you already have before looking outside.

I worked at Boston Scientific full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Excellent opportunity to work with and investigate a broad spectrum of medical devices.

    Cons

If you're not part of management when you're hired, you likely won't be due to the lack of internal development. The turnover is huge and they tend to hire managers from other firms than reorganize departments.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide growth opportunities for people who have demonstrated leadership and improved the value of the serves rather than letting staff go to meet arbitrary benchmarks. Once enough staff has left, no one will be left to answer were the data is or what it means.
