I have been working at Boston Scientific full-time

    Pros

Very friendly people. Company takes the time to hire new employees. So many opportunities to take classes sponsored by the company.

    Cons

There are a lot of longtime workers, so career progression can be slow; however the benefits make up for the time.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing a great job of valuing your employees. Each meeting we are told how appreciated we are and how the business succeeds because of us.

I worked at Boston Scientific full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Used to be a good company till senior management started budget cutting (over more than 4 years)

    Cons

Senior management keeps changing. New one comes and says, forget whatever was said 2 years ago. This is the new direction for the company.

    Advice to Management

Nothing I say will change anything

    Pros

Travel - Summer Hours - Profit Sharing

    Cons

Currently (2015) poor management in Supplier Quality. Management does a poor job at employee recognition in Supplier Quality.

    Advice to Management

Engineers should stick to being engineers not make them bad managers.

I have been working at Boston Scientific (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great people, meaningful work, a lot of different opportunities

    Cons

When teams shrink workload doesn't, and pressure to cut costs is ongoing

    Advice to Management

Don't jump immediately to offshore, take a real look at what key skills and capabilities need to be maintained internally

I have been working at Boston Scientific as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great environment, the people are enthusiastic and seem to love their jobs. I have been made to feel welcome and important since day one.

    Cons

The downside to being a contract employee is that there are no benefits, no PTO. And the contracts tend to be extended, rather than simply moving employees into a permanent position at the end of their contract. It depends upon availability.

I worked at Boston Scientific full-time

    Pros

    Big organization, numerous job opportunities.

    Cons

Certain managers tend to micromanage their direct reports.

    Advice to Management

Train and retrain unqualified managers. Apparently some managers lack the fundamental mindset and skills to manage people. They use the organization's peer-feedback tool against certain employees at year-end reviews, instead of using it as a tool to develop the employees throughout the year. Managers should also be careful not to make false promises on promotion opportunities, as this can be perceived as a practice of manipulating their direct reports.

I worked at Boston Scientific full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great People! Good Intentions, innovative minds, everyone trying to achieve goals and objectives. Loyalties to company/success, collaboration, innovative creations at their finest. A LOT of CARE for the patients being served. Personally rewarding.

    Cons

Outsourced divions (AP, HR, IT). Quality of life affected through LONG HOURS 50-60 weekly. Work during the day at your desk then go home to work some more at night.

    Advice to Management

Give the employees the freedom they need to create innovation and you will be rewarded with more productivity from your workforce. Eliminate roadblocks which prevent an individual to actually DO their job. Attrition continues to be significant and you are contributing to the disposable workforce if you don't retain the top talent that is walking out your door.

    Pros

Management is very knowledgeable and helpful. Has a Gym, Full service Cafe and you can walk a mile within the building on a cold day. People are encouraged to be healthy, Marker on the walls, tell you, how far have you walked.

    Cons

City is ARCTIC cold in winter!

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work!

I worked at Boston Scientific full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Fantastic cross functional opportunities in the early part of my career.

    Cons

Focus on people development and career development dwindled as the Guidant / BSC acquisition happened. Culture was focused on results only, people were not the focus. Maintaining a healthy work life balance became very hard in many parts of the organization.

    Advice to Management

People are your asset, without them, the company does thrive. Invest in and focus on career development and developing your star talent. Also, helping your people manage a healthy work life balance is the key to satisfied, engaged, productive and creative employees!
