I have been working at Boston Scientific full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Good work environment with good benefits and okay pay. People are accepting, depending on the line and department that is.

    Cons

Very political and cliquish. Some people, especially managers, are quick to choose favorites and make it known. Very seldom come through on promises and raises upon career advancement.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give workers the chance for advancement and better chances at a raise. The product builders do know what they work with and what works best. Don't fix what isn't broken simply because it looks good on paper. Also, standard work is crap.

Former Intern - Co-Op in Spencer, IN
Former Intern - Co-Op in Spencer, IN

I worked at Boston Scientific as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

    - Good hourly salary and chances to work overtime to even make more money
    - Many opportunities to learn about how the healthcare industry operates
    - Constant exposure to Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing
    - Flexible hours
    - Close to college town
    - Friendly co-workers

    Cons

    - Most of the time you will be doing validation testing for the engineers, which can get boring after a while
    - No benefits offered (health insurance, 401k, etc.)
    - No mentoring programs
    - Rural location

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give co-ops and interns chances to participate in real engineering projects as members, not as peons that do the work that no one wants to. You will make them feel more excited about their job and convince them that this is the place to come when it's time for full-time job searching.

I have been working at Boston Scientific full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The people ar nice. They have good benefits. There is a great link to pateint care and the difference the company makes in minimaly invasive medicine.

    Cons

There is a lack of core competencies and depth of knowledge in leaders/managers; It is difficult to work in a very corporate ruled organization that is slow moving

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Limit required programs sites must implement; Managment should realize the amount of work required to make small changes and properly resource.

I worked at Boston Scientific full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The employees at this plant really do create a sort of family.

    Cons

Ever since the lifting of the FDA 483 and the Guidant settlement, the work environment has been more fickle.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You might want to retain some of your longer term employees for a while instead of filling the place with fresh college grads in critical positions.

    I worked at Boston Scientific

    Pros

I worked in the finance department as an intern and had a great experience. The people were friendly, they pay was solid, and the products BSC makes genuinely make a positive difference in people's lives.

    Cons

I found working the 8-5 in the same office at the same desk Monday through Friday a little tedious, at least at this point in my career. Departments are a bit disconnected as well.

    Cons

Not much to do in Indiana, some people at facility don't really enjoy helping co-ops, some people very lazy at facility

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Didn't communicate a whole lot with management but when I did they always seemed to be on top of things

    I worked at Boston Scientific

    Pros

It is a great place to get experience in the medical devices industry on the research side, or in manufacturing on the production side.

    Cons

Many employees aren't motivated to work hard, upper management is often too involved in the day-to day operations of the business resulting in little authority at lower levels. Furthermore, advancement is unpredictable, and it seems like there is no distinct path for career progression.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Step back and let people do their job. It would also be nice if management was not involved in putting out the day to day fires and focused more on sustainability.
