Pros
BU is an interesting place to work. Very fulfilling helping students out when they appreciate what you do.
Cons
Students often don't appreciate what you do. Lots of politics and backstabbing here. People are always looking for how to better themselves
Advice to Senior Management
Offer some more benefits to your employees - it will make them happier
Pros
This is the place that economic department offers relevant research experience to master economics students on campus. And you can get some payment to compensate your tuition fee.
Cons
Though the jobs are offered by IED, in fact, the research assistant job that master students get are to work for PhD students from economics department. All the mentors are PhD students in senior years who want assistant to help their research project or papers. The attractiveness of work varies within mentors. Some get more programming work while others may do very boring data work. The time schedule also varies depending on who is your mentor.
Pros
great place to work, rich environment to interact, very close community, research work good, has a good network of resources.
Cons
it has to long drive for me so large commute time and traffic can cause some problems but otherwise its good.
Advice to Senior Management
it has been goofdeffort to get good talent pool in , so encourage it and more funding on new research projects an industry colloaborations.
Pros
Great place to start in higher ed administration. The tuition remission program is excellent. Health & dental are very strong compared to others.
Cons
Not a lot of satisfaction in the senior management. Depending on the department you work in, you can either have a lot of support or none at all.
Pros
I came to BU largely because of their generous tuition remission benefit; I earned my masters' degree in 12 months and BU paid about 90% of the cost. It's a great place in the sense that there are tons of formal and informal learning opportunities--lectures, concerts, symposiums, professional trainings, classes with tuition remission, etc. In my personal experience (though this is not necessarily the norm in all depts), my boss is great--smart, available, fair, and encouraging.
Cons
After almost three years, I'm ready for a new challenge; and although I have my masters now and have been applying to new jobs within BU for about 10 months, I've only had 3 internal interviews and no offers. HR throws around the message that "BU wants to recognize and promote from within", but that has absolutely not been my experience--and it's extremely frustrating.
Advice to Senior Management
Better starting salaries and improve opportunities for advancement.
Pros
everyone was very helpful and supportive. Monthly meetings are held to make sure everyone is on the same page which is good.
Cons
The environment can become very stressful especially when it is the specific time for people coming to view the university
Advice to Senior Management
they are doing a great job but pay could be better also if they offer more opportunities to grow would be great.
Pros
The benefits are excellent, especially the tuition remission and the retirement plans. Additionally there is trainining available to help you improve your skill set.
Cons
There is a heavy emphasis on degrees not quality of work when determing pay increases and promotions. This can be frustrating when you bust your butt and someone gets better raise beause they have more degrees, yet are lazy.
Advice to Senior Management
Look at the quaity and quantity of work that the employee does rather than just base promotions etc on just degrees. People with less degrees tend to be a lot smarter and work harder, and most importantly have more common sense.
Pros
Tons of opportunities. Great location.
Cons
Very large and bureaucratic. You can become "just a number"
Pros
BU is a big and good school. At BU, I learnt a lot about about life and career. Boston is a big city where there is a lot of chances.
Cons
Somethimes, I feel it's a little bit noisy here. I prefer a quiet place to live and work. Boston is a cold city in the winter.
Advice to Senior Management
If BU can decrease their tuition and fees, it will be better for me. On the other hand, the food at BU dinning hall is not very good.
Pros
Great benefits, good location (in the city), pretty flexible hours depending on your position.
Cons
Work can sometimes get monotonous.
Advice to Senior Management
Cut down on bureaucracy.
