I worked at Bostwick Laboratories full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Management sincerely cares about the success of the company and as well as their staff - The company invests in the education and growth of their staff - I wasn't thrown into a position, I was mentored and challenged and always knew I had the support of my immediate supervisor as well as Executive level management - Work/Life balance is strongly supported - The company puts the safety of their staff first and closes the building during severe inclement weather, and is very understanding when staff have trouble getting to work during inclement weather - Company wide lunches are provided and catered on occasion to reward the hard working employees - Fun contests and rewards during Lab Week - Management works diligently to create a culture and atmosphere of support, appreciation, respect, and satisfaction

    Cons

    - Downsizing that has occurred over the passed several years

    Advice to Management

None, management works very hard to support the success of company and their staff.

I worked at Bostwick Laboratories full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Cooperative counterparts willing to help. The billing policy they did stand by..

    Cons

Entire upper layers of management. When my manager came to ride with me and saw/found out I was 16 weeks pregnant I was told the next day that they were integrating specialties and realigning (now mind you my husbands a navy seal/ green beret) offered me (we live in the panhandle where they moved the entire group 4 years ago)- broward & dade counties ONLY .. Had no choice other than to speak with the state regarding wrongful being "basically downsized or terminated- even though I had the largest WH account in the country, so many specimens the courier had to pick up from 3 bins in the office twice every day.... At that time everyone reported to the CEO (who's never been in this industry, in this country prior to doing what he should refocus his career on- raising capital...

    Advice to Management

Saying nothing, when they are trying to get you to do their ppt slides for a board meeting; just hours before the meeting, say plenty.

I worked at Bostwick Laboratories full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great management team. I had excellent co workers. Pay is competitive. Work conditions are good. Management makes effort to connect with the employees.

    Cons

Nothing that I can think of. Probably an onsite cafe will help with employee productivity. More training opportunities and rotation will help development of employees.

    Advice to Management

Consider having team building events and some more onsite facilities. More training and career development will help with retaining an developing talent.

I worked at Bostwick Laboratories full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The Equipment is up to date with current Laboratory testing. Most pathologist are pleasant to work with and took the time to further educate you. Great on the job experience.

    Cons

Amount of work received varied greatly from day to day. Constant mechanical problems with specific equipment. 30 minutes for lunch with no food in the cafeteria just snacks and was not allowed to leave property on breaks.

    Advice to Management

Hire people with experience and that actually care about the work and work ethics of others. At this company if you are a stand out worker management will find more for you to do meanwhile the slackers are left alone.

    Pros

The pay was fair, but that was probably only because they were raking it in from screwing the government.

    Cons

As other departments grew and hired staff accordingly, sales & marketing was expected to make do with two employees supporting 50+ sales reps. This resulted in poor quality work output and 16+ hour days. Despite having a team-player attitude, raises/bonuses were dangled in front of us like carrots only to be snatched away at the last second. Zero work-life balance, and upper management ruled like a tyranny. When I resigned, I was "retroactively" fired in anger because there was already so much turnover that the banks were refusing to work with them any more money due to the risk they were creating for themselves. HORRIBLE place to work.

    Advice to Management

Do the right thing--pay your lawsuit settlements and get out of the business.

I worked at Bostwick Laboratories full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    co-workers, 401K, location, no weekends

    Cons

stress, overworked and inexperienced techs leads to mistakes, low salary

    Advice to Management

It's difficult to advise when managers don't last. I saw every manager and many directors fired while I was employed. It was a scary and sad environment to work in. 99% of techs hired at Bostwick are inexperienced and trained on the job.
