I have been working at Bouchard Transportation full-time

    Pros

Fairly competitive salary, most of the boats are taken care of, fleet is expanding.

    Cons

Company is well known in the industry as the one where everyone is on the verge of being fired. If you can accept that and be always ready to pack and go home (remember, it always happens when you least expect it)- you can make it there. If you want to feel like your effort is appreciated and owner sees you as a human being - go somewhere else

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I worked at Bouchard Transportation full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The company has great longevity, tremendous financial backing, a wealth of great customers and great employees. You would think this would be a wonderful place to work. It is not!

    Cons

There has never been a worse place to work anywhere in the world. Whatever you accomplish there is never good enough. The phrase you are damned if you do, damned if you don't is appropriate. Employees are fired without cause and then called back into the office after 3 days. Employees are promoted and then demoted within a 90 day span. The company is about the owner's ego and that is all. A truly disgusting human being runs this place.

    I worked at Bouchard Transportation

    Pros

If serving under Captain Wolf Larson aboard The Ghost was your childhood dream, this is the place for you. Their salaries are reasonably competitive and the office is easily accessible from the Long Island Expressway. Co workers are pleasant enough but they are not often the best and the brightest.

    Cons

Abusive owner, paranoid culture, antiquated procedures, stingy benefits. Prepare to be awash in a sea of paperwork. Many of the employees have been on board for years and are extremely resistant to change. Senior managers tend to be older individuals who are clearly on the downsides of their careers and are just grateful to have jobs -- therefore, they just accept the status quo, cover their backs and are always willing to toss you an anchor.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide some meaningful direction and feedback to your employees. Update your technologies and procedures. And, oh yes, treat people with more dignity and respect.
