    Pros

Real responsibility from day 1 which really allowed you to learn much faster than at university gaining a different kind of understanding of the construction process.

    Flexible (ish) hours.

    Good team spirit.

    Interesting projects.

    Cons

Trainee salary was not amazing but if you do show potential and are awarded with a permanent job afterwards this is drastically improved.

    Pros

    Lots of responsibility
Currently picking up so some very interesting projects
Some fantastic people to work with who seem to have a version of Stockholm Syndrome

    Cons

Senior management is are in a work of their own
    Scapegoat culture
HR are useless. Alternate between incompetent and offensive
Huge pressure to work long hours
    Massive cultural divide
Forget about promotions if you're not French; "Garlic Ceiling" is apparent
Knee jerk reaction to problem solving
    Bureaucracy rules supreme
    Staff (particularly non-french) are expendable

    Advice to Management

Look around you. Get over yourselves.

Poor payment terms to supply chain.

    Advice to Management

    Pros

Some of their systems of managing cost could be useful to the UK industry but otherwise there are not any good reasons to work at Bouygues.

    Cons

Very bad builders and care nothing for their staff

    Advice to Management

You have been here for 20 years. Time you learnt

    Pros

Nothing worth mentioning. I would discourage anyone from choosing this company as it would be a waste of time and talents.

    Cons

Long working will be required from your boss , hours 8am to 9pm , live to work mentality.
Lack of communication from the management.
You will get treated unfairly and quite rudely.
Other employees want to leave as well, so many of them jumped ship throughout the time i was there, and some of them told me , this is the worst company they have ever worked for, they said even if the doubled my wages I still would not stay there.
Other companies do not want to deal with them, because of how they are and very negative past dealings with them.
You will get blamed even if it is not your fault, and will be scapegoated for it.
They do not know how to deal with employees, and are clueless of English culture.
Very very poor training and even worse expectations for it.
The worst mistake was applying for a job with them, I am so happy i left them now.

    Advice to Management

Go back to France , your competitors are doing a better job than you and know how to treat their employees. It is the people who build you business, stupid!

    Pros

My first job out of Uni, really happy they gave me a chance
    Colleagues were really lovely people
    Nice office location in Waterloo

    Cons

Don't apply if you are not French. You have no career prospects.
They say they want to be a UK company but server software being purchased is in French. When you inform then of the obvious issues supporting it you pretty much get told to work on something else.
Management are so oblivious to any issues and quite frankly don't care.
Shockingly high turnover of staff, really need to try and understand why.
Save yourself the frustration and apply to Skanska instead as you really know that is where you really want to be!
    There is no morale.
A really big issue with us (the french) and them (anyone from the rest of the world)
HR manager at the time was a company puppet.

    Advice to Management

If you want to be a French company, with all due respect go back to France! If you want to be a melting pot of different ideas and methods of work then suck it up and listen to the staff and please dump all the French server software!

    Cons

Values, you'll only get promoted if you're French, crap ways of doing things, haemorrhage money, attitudes, young managers who don't have a clue what they are doing, no communication

    Advice to Management

Reality check! You're not amazing! Pull your fingers out your arses and start looking after your staff!

    Pros

    Continues to win projects
    Large Company
    Autonomous working environment
    Good people

    Cons

    Bad behavior is commended/promoted
Awful management - unsupportive, Directors oblivious to what is happening lower down food chain
    Very apparent cultural divide
    Unwilling to pay contractors
Ego of it's international success - culture is not that of a UK business
Work-life balance - there is none
    Huge turnover of staff
Huge amount of work load on lower paid staff
Huge discrepancies between salary of same grade staff
Not enough staff employed on sites - overworked, overpaid and unappreciated
Managers all of a certain age - some older seen as at their capactiy

    Advice to Management

Stop worrying about creating new policies and procedures ( to add to the already existing mountain) and start looking at your staff. They are the cogs to the machine.

You have to leave the culture of having 'the club' - stop surrounding yourselves with French. UK staff are NOT "replaceable with french" if you want to continue to expand and learn in the UK market. Lose the arrogance and listen to those who are familiar with the market.

Benefits of other contractors/companies far outweigh your own. No wonder so many are leaving for your competitors. Not just contractual benefits, but work /life balance. Offer training to those who are performing, not just those who are in 'the club'.

There also too many managers who are promoted for their bad behavior - little work, reliance on others who already are inundated with work and their ability to fluff their successes which are actually the results of their team's efforts.

    Good Luck.
