    Pros

    Willing to let you get on with the job un nannied

    Cons

    Low payer for contractors
    Really unrealistic deadlines requiring long hours, but DON'T want to pay up at the end of the week when the time sheet is presented.
    On leaving for better paid job, refuse to pay last time sheet. They threaten legal action for a reason or another then refuse to give answer one way or another after a month after threatening legal action should you not surrender any passwords you may have put on a file for security or data integrity even if you let them have the passwords.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Remember, contractors are people too.

    We may not be staff but we deserve the same or equivalent rights and treatment to staff.

    I would never work for the company again unless it was a staff job then i might not get ignored by everyone else in the "team" ie visitor comes in and just ignored.

    Tell managers not to take credit for other peoples work or at least give credit to the person actually doing the work when they ARENT the ones with the technical knowledge who are actually doing the job.

    Continues to win projects
    Large Company
    Autonomous working environment

    Cons

    Bad behavior is commended/promoted
    Awful management - unsupportive, Directors oblivious to what is happening lower down food chain
    Very apparent cultural divide
    Unwilling to pay contractors
    Ego of it's international success - culture is not that of a UK business
    Work-life balance - there is none
    Huge turnover of staff
    Huge amount of work load on lower paid staff
    Huge discrepancies between salary of same grade staff
    Not enough staff employed on sites - overworked, overpaid and unappreciated
    Managers all of a certain age - some older seen as at their capactiy

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Stop worrying about creating new policies and procedures ( to add to the already existing mountain) and start looking at your staff. They are the cogs to the machine.

    You have to leave the culture of having 'the club' - stop surrounding yourselves with French. UK staff are NOT "replaceable with french" if you want to continue to expand and learn in the UK market. Lose the arrogance and listen to those who are familiar with the market.

    Benefits of other contractors/companies far outweigh your own. No wonder so many are leaving for your competitors. Not just contractual benefits, but work /life balance. Offer training to those who are performing, not just those who are in 'the club'.

    There also too many managers who are promoted for their bad behavior - little work, reliance on others who already are inundated with work and their ability to fluff their successes which are actually the results of their team's efforts.

    It's a financially secure business.

    Cons

    Hard work, no one can make a decision, when decisions are made they are reversed, adversarial, rude, need it go on!?

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Get real. You're not a french business, you're working in the UK now. Too many managers doing too little, shed the management dead weight and employ more 'doers'. Martin Schultz, Carole Ditty and Madani Sow are brilliant, but the rest are a waste of space!

    Pros

    Great way to learn and gain experience in the industry as they put you in the deep end and give you some real autonomy to manage your own workload (either manage it or die trying). The work is varied and engaging, boredom will certainly not be a problem. Managers and engineers are exposed to carrying out the quantity surveying elements of the role and are required to have a firm grasp on the financial numbers.

    Cons

    The companies expectations of your output are way in excess of any other British companies, you can expect working very long hours (Typically 8am-8pm as a minimum). I mention British as Bouygues UK are originally a French company who very much maintain the French system of operating although they have adapted their policies and systems to become more UK friendly.

    An example is the role of the QS, were as previously they were not utilised or relied on as much due to engineers and managers fulfilling that role. The role of the QS has evolved and even though

    Nearly all project teams are under resourced, projects are priced that way and you will be expected to keep to that.

    The company management system is bureaucratic and involves a lot of paperwork, you will be expected to adhere to it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    The remuneration packages needs to be consolidated as currently there is too large a discrepancy between the individuals who are of the same grade, perform the same role and have the same responsibilities.

    Project Managers within the group vary significantly in their competencies to fulfill their role which can have a significant impact on the project team and their output. The problem seems to be not from the PMs being promoted to the role within the company but more from the external experienced individuals they employ who find great difficulty in adapting to the systems and policies of the company.

    A lot of responsibilities, exposure to design, contract, cost control, Subcontractor management, very good experience for Juniors

    Great personal development opportunities as a lot of responsibilities are given right from the start.
    Supportive management and training available at request.

    Cons

    The only con that I can think of right away is the long hours. There is a tendency for a majority to stay rather late even though company policy doesn't support it. But it's part of the company culture.

    They are a large company

    Cons

    Very Long Hours due to lack of management staff & surveyors.
    Lack of Quality Labour, Management & generally poor supply chain
    Poor Quality & unskilled labour
    Very bad payment terms & do not want to pay any contractors or staff.

    Bouygues UK Ltd is part of one of the largest construction empires in the world
    If you are lucky, you can work on large exiting projects.

    Cons

    Work life balance is a subjects of discussion, never to be implemented, its expensive.
    Be careful, keep a hand in the air, don't hit the glass ceiling with your head.

    Your workforce is extremely negative. You can't just take and never thank.
    Staff turnover, a joke or planned? Why so few that stay? There is many fishes in the see, throw them back and catch a new fool.
