I have been working at Bowdoin Group full-time for more than a year

    Pros

There is a great team in place that is always willing to help newer members become acclimated to the position or even the industry. You're given the tools/resources to succeed and are rewarded for your hard work. Great office culture and a lot of room for growth.

    Cons

    Interview process in lengthy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep communication open with employees. Absolutely love that you take your employees opinions seriously.

    Pros

You will be thrown right into the mix and it expected to produce from day 1. If you can handle putting in the work the chance to do well is there.

    Cons

Lack of structure between departments and communication between managers and recruiters. It seemed that at times everyone was not on the same page.

I worked at Bowdoin Group full-time

    Pros

Lots of fun, hard working, nice people. Office space isn't bad. Company puts on monthly social hours to mingle with coworkers and relax with food and wine/beer.

    Cons

You're sold one idea of what your job is and what the company's approach and values are, making them sound less like a "head hunting" firm which ends up feeling like they're trying to trick themselves into believing they're not in recruiting and that the industry isn't super competitive and invasive. On boarding/training isn't helpful. Too many people train/direct you in different ways. You hear people say that they feel like they can't have work life balance to be successful. Interview process is also extremely long and huge emphasis on a personality test which doesn't event prevent the high turnover I witnessed. Also, you go in for your acceptance of the position only to be grilled by a partner which again gives off the impression that this company is highly paranoid of people leaving.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be honest. You're in recruiting to make money. It's ok to say you hold higher ethics to get the job done but it definitely isn't all about helping people. If you're honest about your industry and what your priorities are you will attract the right people and will have to spend less time and money on personality tests that only depict extreme paranoia on your own part.

I have been working at Bowdoin Group full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Everybody is serious about their careers. People work hard but they everybody helps each other out, We all play hard and their are no clicks. Management is very open to input, even from the newer employees. You will learn how to do things the right way. People with bad attitudes do not last. There are no office politics just do your job.

    Cons

When you first join you will be surprised how direct people are with each other. There is no excuse making. If you don't like being introspective about your performance the meetings can be uncomfortable. Once you get used to the directness you will find it very helpful.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The focus on culture has been very helpful. Don't take you eye off the ball.

I have been working at Bowdoin Group full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Very professional and hard-working environment with opportunities to learn and grow early in your career. The entire leadership team is great and they are extremely approachable and open to feedback. Open and constructive communication is valued. Everyone is focused on what's best for our clients, and I think people take pride in what we deliver.

    Cons

Sometimes there is too much focus on the bottom-line and not enough focus on company culture/people development, but management recognizes this and is taking steps to improve it.

I worked at Bowdoin Group full-time for less than a year

    Pros

The ability to make a lot of money if you can navigate through the politics and unfair treatment.
The pros that are communicated in the interview phase are not honest.

    Cons

    - The interview phase is very long and will take 4-5 visits.
    - The work environment is not laid-back or casual as suggested in many of their postings. It is very micro-managed and metric driven
    - Upper management is two-faced and will say one thing and the other until it's too late.
    - Normal working hours are 7am to 7pm Monday through Friday.
    - Base salary is very low
-Turn over rate in the past 6 months has been higher than hire rate
    - Management by fear is the key strategy to encourage employees
    - The initial 6 months as a recruiter will consist of working internal openings. These are the most difficult to fill and least pay due to all above comments

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Close the doors and start being honest with your clients.

I worked at Bowdoin Group full-time

    Pros

This is a great environment for a driven, hungry sales personality. The leadership group, especially the owner, is terrific and they put a great deal of effort into making people successful. The business ethics here are second to none and that comes from the top. There are always incentives and rewards in the form of dinners and company trips that are rare for this industry.

    Cons

Recruiting is a tough business......this company does it's best to help people succeed, but ultimately there will be bumps in the road. If someone is not self-motivated and a hard worker, this will not be the right place for them.

I have been working at Bowdoin Group full-time for more than a year

    Pros

You will be recognized and rewarded if you're motivated, driven, and work hard. The people are very friendly and helpful, good culture, lots of flexibility. They provide an environment where what you put in is what you get out so there's the freedom to move at your own pace. Good for those who want to succeed quickly but not for those who want to just coast. Management works with everyone daily, If you have an issue or new idea you can address them.

    Cons

People often have a lot of their plates. A lot is expected. This is good and bad, no shortage of work but sometimes spread thin.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Many types of people can succeed there, they could open up a little, take a chance on people versus erring on the side of caution.

I have been working at Bowdoin Group

    Pros

Easy-going, professional. They will definitely work with their contractors to keep them happy, within the constraints imposed by the contract with whatever company you are placed at.

    Cons

Some things sometimes slip through the cracks. Simple things sometimes get overlooked. There sometimes is a little more attention paid to the bottom line than to the personal needs of employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Check in with your contractors and consultants more often. "No news" is not always "good news" and often a remote employee is reluctant to make waves for fear of teh reprecussions, wither to the employee or to one of the companies involved.
