    Pros

It is a clean nIce Air conditioned place that pays on time and we get a free lunch every single day.

    Cons

Almost in every job position available you will know when you are due to start work but hardly ever when you will get off work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

My advice to mangament would be for them to take an honest approach at looking to hiring from within at every chance.

    Pros

The company is very laid back and you create your work given from leads at have been created. Very competitive because senior works generally have the better clients but shouldn't worry too much. Few different management teams but overall very helpful and let you run with what you have and give great suggest if you would work with another person to close the deal.

    Cons

It's a difficult job. Your first big sale won't come for a couple years. You have to stay focus and push though it. This job isn't for some without patience

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

the management is very involved which is good, but also lets the sales exe. do their own thing. Overall management team is positive

    Current Employee - Project Coordinator

    Pros

It is a fast-paced environment and can be stressful at times, but if you put the work in the rewards can be satisfying. This is not a typical 9-5, mind-numbing job. You will be challenged daily and if you have the smarts you can advance through the organisation.

    Cons

The hours can be long and unsociable sometimes, and include shift work. When the financial markets are riding high, you may work 18 hours a day, seven days a week.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Corporate marketing need to do a better job at making sure we communicate our strengths to employees and clients alike. We used to be very unified with the 'Bowne Values' campaign, but since budgets and head-count were cut in marketing that seems to have dissipated.

    Current Employee - Director

    Pros

It used to be a very good place to work offering a family atmospere. For the past few years management has gone in a different direction and now exploit hourly employees and offer little in the way of perks or praise for any of these employees. Sales and Customer service have become even more lavish than before offering breakfasts and lunches and tickets to special entertainment events while adopting a certain "let them eat cake" attitude towards the hourly employees.

    Cons

It has turned from the Bowne Family, into the Bowne Family Plantation with all client facing employees being the Plantation Owners and the hourly employees being the slaves.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do something for your employees as you sell the company to RRD. If you leave them out of the negotiation process, the employees that have stood by Bowne through thick and thin will not receive the same fair treatment as those who have been laid off in the past few months.

Incompetent, self serving middle management that completely ignores company policies.

-unfair advancement (don't always post available jobs )
    -seniority counts for nothing
    -untruthful management

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

-Head Office (N.Y.) should be doing major investigating of the way company policies and employees are being handled in Toronto.

Competitive wages, lousy middle management in Toronto location.

Former Employee - Desktop & Prepress Operator in Toronto, ON (Canada)

    Pros

Competitive wage and always up on current methodologies. In the Toronto location they always had us working with the latest software and hardware, which was nice.

    Cons

Too many meetings (get in the way of work) and middle management wasn't always competent; Especially the middle management appointed by the former General Manager. Sorry, can't remember his name offhand.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

To promote based on competence (middle management & supervisors) rather than on their ability to kiss arse, or be "yes" persons. Saw too much of this, especially with the previous general manager, whose son works as a CSR. Damn can't remember his name ...
