Former Employee – worked at Boy Scouts of America full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – Ok for an entry level job. Good benefits. Gives you a true look at the harsh realities of the real world.
Cons – They don’t care for your personal time. Long and ridiculous hours, including working on Sundays. Yes, Sundays. Poor opportunities for advancement. Awful upper management. Only care about raising money to pay bills. Could care less about the values of the program itself.
Advice to Senior Management – Try to inspire your staff by showing that you actually care about the Scouting rather than just the numbers.

Former Employee – worked at Boy Scouts of America full-time for more than a year
Pros – Scouting is a fantastic program that brings families together and helps youth develop their skills and interest. Executives get good exposure to many different aspects of society and opportunities to develop many skills. Some councils are better than others.
Cons – Complete disregard for work-life balance and executive's personal development. Fraudulent pursuit of goals (especially membership) are often encouraged by management. 60-80 hours per week at very low pay are the norm. Group-think mentality keeps getting the organization in trouble. Lacks innovation.
Advice to Senior Management – Respect executives like partners rather than slaves.
