Pros
Positive and fun atmosphere.
Managers that care about the employees.
Low cost health insurance.
Low cost meals while on-the-job.
Exciting place to work.
Cons
Have to work holidays.
Most employees do not have weekends off.
Usually can't attend public events such as concerts and shows.
Advice to Senior Management
Update the job requirements on the company's online employee job postings to reflect the current requirements for each positon (i.e. degree required, etc.).
Pros
Friendly staff. Light work load. Decent employee dining area. Lots of opportunity within the company to grow or transfer to another property.
Cons
Very poor middle managment. Supervisors lack training. No structure within the departments and no or little communication. Bottom ot the barrel industry pay scale and poor benefits package. No open door policy. I was not able to collect my acumulated PTO when I quit. I was denied health insurance after passing the probation period due to somebody in corporate failed to send out the insurance packet.
Advice to Senior Management
Teach your supervisors some basic supervisory skills. Middle management needs to take a more hands on approach than basically being an absentee director that’s not accessible to your staff.
Pros
Coworkers on the same level with you. We all know and share the burden of working at this company so we are all sympathetic to each other.
Cons
All kinds of responsibility yet no power to correct action we are supposed to be responsible for. Toughest action we can take against anyone breaking any rules is to ask politely if they would stop that. If you do anything but ask them to follow the rules you'll get reprimanded if they continue to break the rules you'll get reprimanded. Most floor just don't care anymore, we are told to S.O.S. See it own it solve it but it's more like S.I.W. now for most see it ignore it walk away. It's what the CSM do so why not the floor as well.
Advice to Senior Management
You make the excuse that some floor supervisors don't know what they are doing that why they can't take any action against rule breakers. If that's the case why don't you have training for that sort of thing?
To anyone who wants a job in the downtown area please do yourself a favor and avoid Boyd properties.
Pros
Job security and family atmosphere.
Cons
Very easy going and no bonus structure.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep up the good job.
Pros
The Company has a great reputation in the community and the culture is warm, friendly and comfortable. Senior leadership is incredibly competent and forward thinking. Can't imagine working for any other casino.
Cons
The only downside is market conditions, which has nothing to do with the company. As with everyone else, we'll be very happy when the storm passes.
Pros
Great opportunities can be offered to you
Cons
they are lack of good leaders
Advice to Senior Management
not that good
Pros
The people I work for and work with have made all the difference in making it a great place to work. I have learned a lot since I've been there, and even though some of it hasn't been easy,it's been worth it. My job is never boring and never predictable, which makes it interesting. I have learned a lot especially in the last year. But it really is the people that make it worth it.
Cons
The only real downside to me is the salary. I understand why it is low,but really do wish the annual raises could be a little better. We work very hard each and every day,and we always strive to do the best job possible.
Advice to Senior Management
The only advice I would give is to make sure you listen to the employees.Sometimes we have very good suggestions that would be a benefit to the department and the company. I know that our management really does try to listen when we have a suggestion and to use them if possible.
Pros
They have 13 properties nation wide. So, depending on where you want to live, there's a property near you(so to speak). There's 9 in Las Vegas,NV. And I think that's where most of the customers are.
Cons
It is very noticeable that there is favortisim from the bosses in the gaming area. The non caucasion and african american employees are felt shunned upon compared to the asian/oriental employees. I can point out mistakes and complaints from customers about certain employees
and there is no reprimand. These employees continue to do things their way with no respect toward others. And I thought it was house policy for all to speak english in ALL public areas of the casino. But, these certain employees continue to speak in their language even inside the 21 pits. All day, everyday. And when I make mention that the policy is english only in the public area, I get some very nasty looks.
Advice to Senior Management
You REALLY do need to re-think the insurance coverage. It is horrible. I know that these are hard times for most of us, but come on, really? I do not have $1500.00 for a deductable, let alone 15 % for my Drs. visit. Just to go through the door for our insurance, get 1 x-ray, and 1 injection was $834.00. That's $381.00 going through the door, $100.00 for x-ray, and $178.00 for injection(cortisone), then the follow up visit is $175.00. If I had that kind of money, I wouldn't need insurance. What happened to the $200.00 deductables? What's the advantage to this so called "Advantage Plan"???? A cash patient gets a great break...through the door $125.00,x-ray $80.00, injection $100.00, and follow up $40.00. So I ask you, where's the advantage?
Pros
Benefits H.R. Director fair to most Workers.
Horse Races and Casino, Customers are very good on property to meet and help out. Get to hear all kinds of stories from both sides of the Gambling world.
Cons
Unfair treatment in race Facility Director and Manager.
Director is very rude to Supervision and workers not qualified to lead. Director is unfair in sharing of wages to workers doing his job.
Advice to Senior Management
Remember Directors are not qualified at Delta Downs, they knew some one to get the job Facility and Hotel. Always finding ways to degrade workers with other Directors rude and very unprofessenal..Unfair labor treatment to African Americans in department .Why is that allowed ?
Pros
It was a great company to move up and gain knowledge. Opportunities presented themselves for those who work for it.
Cons
Turnover of core management is minimal once you reach a certain level there are no other available positions unless your willing to relocate out of state
Advice to Senior Management
Recognize talent when it presents itself. There are a lot of very capable individuals that would be great at fulfilling management roles.
