Pros
Great place to work. If you like skiing and snowsports this is a great place for you.
- awesome benefits - discounts at all Boyne-owned resorts throughout the U.S.
- free season pass to ski the Boyne resorts in Michigan
- great young people
Cons
- Hourly wage
- Not a lot of upward mobility unless you pay your dues and mind working 10-9 shifts on the sales floor
Advice to Senior Management
Management does a great job with everything. From top to bottom, well structured
Pros
They have Free golf and ski, discounts on grossly marked up retail, good food and beverage discounts, and friendly entry level staff.
Cons
They don't value their staff or make much effort to offer praise for jobs well done. When they do praise people it is empty and insincere. They don't make any efforts to retain good staff that make a difference in the company and help improve the stressful unfriendly work environment. The benefits packages are terrible and not worth investing in, forcing most people to obtain individual health insurance from other sources.
Also you won't get a raise unless you beg for it and then even if your supervisor thinks you deserve one management will just deny it.
Advice to Senior Management
An unhappy employee will go out of the way to waste company resources. Keep your employees happy and they will be willing to go above and beyond their job description to benefit the company. Invest more money in benefits and consider giving raises to your staff occasionally. People don't like to work for 5+ years at a company and not get a single raise.
Pros
Ski, golf passes for employees and family
Cons
Not enough training going in for a department head.
Advice to Senior Management
Just get the pool/spa built.
Pros
The golf courses are very nice and the work environment very laid back. The town is a fabulous place to live in the summer months.
Cons
If you don't like the cold weather or snow the winters are not for you. It's very chill and quiet at times.
Advice to Senior Management
The upper management is very respectful and cooperative to employee needs. Nice people that enjoy what they are doing. Easy to get along with.
Pros
Lots of people would like to spend the winter in Big Sky. A job with the resort is a means to end. The skiing is amazing, some of the best terrain in the US. And if you work for the resort you get a free season pass.
Cons
Boyne knows that Big Sky is the draw, so they pay the absolute minimum. Most jobs- lifties, janitors, etc make just more than minimum wage. However, living in Big Sky isn't cheap- food and restaurants and rent are priced for the tourists- so your pay check doesn't get you very far. There's also no need to treat the employees well because you'll be gone at the end of the season and probably not come back.
Advice to Senior Management
Consider better pay, better benefits, updating the housing, and working to retain workers by treating them better. Treat the workers better and they'll work harder because they enjoy doing a good job. Big Sky should not be Boyne's cash cow with the cash pipeline taking the money back to Michigan. Try investing in Big Sky and upgrade the badly outdated infrastructure. How about a decent base lodge? How about a nice clean cafeteria with good food? You're already charging Deer Valley prices, maybe try serving food half as good as they do? How about tearing down or renovating the Mountain Mall? How about paving the parking lots? How about decent locker rooms and bathrooms? How about upgrading some of the older fixed grip lifts? Big Sky doesn't need a water park. Take care of the infrastructure first.
