    Pros

The NPO was very organized an provides a great service for children in need. Anyone who has the ability to volunteer should consider.

    Cons

Although I did not tutor in the subject I desired to assist with, I was still able to help a student in need. It is hard to find cons with this organization from a volunteer's perspective.

    Pros

Each affiliate is different, this review only applies to the NEOH affiliate.
The people are fantastic, both kids and most of the staff.
The program is ambitious and willing to take chances in order to reach a larger population.
    Small, tight knit community.
The leadership is competent and at least makes an effort to pretend to listen.

    Cons

No work life balance and no real interest in trying to create it. After a meeting to discuss the creation of a regular schedule for ASCs in which "work life balance" was stressed, the schedule that was produced had us occasionally working 7 days a week and every weeknight. I guess we were supposed to join a brunch club.
Small, tight knit community: sometimes people are let go because a supervisor has personal problems with them and not because of any performance issues.

    Advice to Management

    Listen to RCs.
Pay attention to work life balance needs.
If you assume that people will leave after one or two years then you are creating a culture that treats them as short term and disposable assets.
You don't always have to assume the worst of people.
Adult staff are not children and should not be treated as such.
If you have four adults in a room with ten kids and three of the adults aren't doing anything productive then they are not "essential" and could have a more productive and fulfilling schedule and job responsibilities.

    Pros

The students were always great and involved with their education. The concept of the program is really good as there are urban students worth investing in.

You can inquire about working at another residence wherever they are located.

    Cons

pay was low and access to support was ok.

    Advice to Management

Need to make a greater cross network for staff.
