I worked at Boys & Girls Clubs (Less than a year)

    Pros

The children are worth the hardships. There is not a lot of money within the organization but pay is still pretty good for the amount of hours. You do work for your money but if you enjoy working with children it won't feel like work.

    Cons

Administrating staff was not the best. They are gone now which allows those that really want to work with children to have an opportunity to do so. Hated that the two top administrators were the ones always complaining; it trickles down the umbrella of staff and to the children as well.

    Advice to Management

Have corporate come in more often and allow at least one or two corporate staff members the ability to interview candidates as well.

    Pros

The job is fun and rewarding. Everyone here is easy to get a long with and the kids make all the hard work worth it.

    Cons

The pay is very low and some times you feel like you are worth more. The hours are from 12-8 so it can be difficult to do actives with friends that work a 9-5.

    Pros

Working with kids and getting to take them on field trips. Loved being able to help them with their homework and interact with the parents.

    Cons

not great pay, can be stressful, coworkers definitely form cliques (this definitely goes for management too), didn't give me the hours they promised.

    Advice to Management

I would say that they need to work on creating an equal working environment. I definitely felt that I couldn't go to my manager about an issue without the rest of management hearing about it.

    Pros

Great management, rewarding work, a lot of employee development. Excellent opportunity for recent high school and college graduates looking to make a difference.

    Cons

Not a lot of room for promotion in certain cities. As with most nonprofits pay is too low to make a comfortable living.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work! I had a great time working for Boys and Girls Club and learned a lot throughout my time there.
