    Pros

Great management, rewarding work, a lot of employee development. Excellent opportunity for recent high school and college graduates looking to make a difference.

    Cons

Not a lot of room for promotion in certain cities. As with most nonprofits pay is too low to make a comfortable living.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work! I had a great time working for Boys and Girls Club and learned a lot throughout my time there.

    Pros

Great experiences working with youth & like-minded co-workers who want to help kids succeed. Lots of support and recognition from co-workers in your unit, but not from upper management.

    Cons

Little room for advancement & any advancement that might be made is much more work than you will be compensated for. Low starting pay. Some facilities are in poor condition.

    Advice to Management

Be more supportive of your staff and directors. Take their words to heart because they are putting their hearts into the work. Pay employees what they are worth. Recognize education and skills.

    Pros

Great mission. Dedicated staff who have committed their livelihoods to the organization's work. Extremely passionate and committed board.

    Cons

Senior leadership. A youth-based organization focused on kids and family and some of the leadership don't carry those same values into their own lives. Hard to believe this would be who is best to lead this organization.

    Advice to Management

Take a hard look at turnover and what it's attributed to. Long time staff have left (or been pushed out) as a result of senior leadership and their poor management style. Would seem to indicate a lack of value placed on individuals for their contributions to the organization. Management of entire departments have turned over since changes in management. Has to make one question what's going on.

    Pros

    Absolutely fantastic relationships between colleagues.

    Cons

Regardless of your history with the organization, when it comes to promotions, merits, it is all about who you know.

    Advice to Management

Value your loyal employees and not new ones coming in too change things without knowing much about the organization.

    Pros

Great place to work, great supervisors, great coworkers. Pays for your certifications.

    Cons

Pay rate is not the best especially when you have certifications to maintain. However this is pretty much everywhere and not the aquatics directors fault.

    Pros

The best and most afordable place for young people ages 5 - 18 in the industry. Staff develop life-long relationships with young members and their families. School education is reinforced and age appropriate life-skills training is available to members. Exposure to mental, as well as physical activities results in more rounded individuals. Continuous program training. Great organization to work for if you like young people.

    Cons

Cons are personal and based on location and management.

    Pros

Working for the Boys & Girls Clubs of America was extremely rewarding, fun, and challenging! This position would be great for someone looking for experience working with children.

    Cons

This job provides minimal training in working with children - you learn as you go. The compensation is fairly low and would be more appropriate as a secondary income. There isn't a lot of opportunity for growth within the organization.
