I have been working at Boys & Girls Clubs part-time for more than a year

    Pros

It is a great experience working with the kids. Its a very rewarding job.

    Cons

You have to be on your feet for hours at a time. I had a manager actually tell me I could not sit down at any point on my shift as Staff with the children.. Which made it difficult to connect with the kids.

Many of the Site Coordinators have favorites, and will make you do the "dirty work" of the job. I even had a manager make a mess and make me clean it up.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Needs to be more regulation on the Site Coordinators, who sometimes are ineffective managers because of their inexperience in the managerial position.

I have been working at Boys & Girls Clubs

    Pros

In theory this should be one of the most rewarding jobs there is. Knowing that I am helping children who need it the most and who would otherwise be playing on the streets is what keep me going. The Anaheim business community is very supportive and long-standing residents are wonderful and passionate to work with.

    Cons

Management is the common thread for employee/community/donor dissatisfaction. Not having any experience or education in the business world really holds the organization back. There is a lack on infrastructure in place that is needed for this organization to reach the capacity that I should have. The potential for greatness at the organization is being held back because of a lack of vision and planning.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

A shift in management would restore staff and community faith in the organization.

I worked at Boys & Girls Clubs part-time for more than a year

    Pros

The hours are pretty flexible and the dress is very relaxed

    Cons

Employees are hostile toward newcomers and the overall environment is not welcoming.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Many employees are pretty unprofessional and there is no consistency in how everyone is treated. The boss needs to focus on keeping practices consistent instead of picking favorites and letting the favorite few get away with whatever they want.

I worked at Boys & Girls Clubs

    Pros

The environment is really laid back and the club I worked out was very diverse. The athletic director at my branch was one of the best people I've ever worked with

    Cons

New management was a bit of an issue my last year at this job, and some of the part time staff are treated with a bias for an unknown reason.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you have a problem with the staff, talk to them directly.

I worked at Boys & Girls Clubs part-time for less than a year

    Pros

About the only pro is the luke-warm feeling that you have done something positive in the life of a child. Even then, it's more of a consolation prize. Staying within licensing rules was a priority and was regularly achieved with minimal faults being recognized.

    Cons

There was a distinct lack of support from the management and almost a "setting you up to fail" system where it was impossible to succeed. I clearly recall several days where I was given my quota of children and expected to keep them all in line with the rules while still achieving objectives and having 0 support from any other staff. I was then held responsible when multiple fights broke out between children who were known to cause such issues and I was eventually let go for being a poor performer.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Support, support, support. This is an industry where it is impossible to pay the trench workers what they deserve but that is no excuse for not providing them with the support they need.
