    Pros

Promotions are based on who can best serve the organization. Refreshing to deal with leaders who are committed to making the company better rather than advance personal agenda. The company has a SPIRIT that is committed to doing the right thing every time. The end never justifies the means at B&G!

    Cons

Company can be slow to address underperformance given its family feel.

    Cons

Have to move around early in career

    Pros

Most of the people I work with are great
Lots of exposure being on a job site
No one expects you to learn everything right away

    Cons

Glued to my desk doing paperwork more often than I would like. Wish I had more time to go out in the field but I have too much work and too little time. No budget for overtime at the site I am on.

    Advice to Management

Be more proactive with the co-ops/interns, make an effort to point things out.

  7. Family feeling in a large company. They are very concerned about employee engagement.

    Pros

They train their managers constantly in leading engaged employees. They really care about the workforce. Not all things about any company will be perfect but I haven't worked anywhere that strives to get it right more than B&G.

    Cons

I think you will find this at any company, but some managers shouldn't be leading. Sometimes it is better to get the wrong people off the bus sooner rather than later, they tend to be a little too lenient with dismissals.

    Advice to Management

Stay firm in your resolve. If the wrong person is working for you, let them go and be decisive.

  8. Intern - Good experience, but not much room for growth

    Pros

Opportunities to work on-site provide valuable construction experience. Also most of the people that I met while working here were very nice and helpful.

    Cons

Expect the main focus of your work term to be grinding out RFIs and submittals. Even talking with other interns that were on their 2nd or 3rd work term, doing this "grunt work" will still take up 75-80% of your time. Also, there are very few opportunities to develop leadership or gain actual problem-solving experience. You are told exactly "how" to do something, and given very little more than minor tasks to apply yourself to.

    Advice to Management

Trust interns with more meaningful work. Also from what I heard from interns on their 2nd or 3rd terms, the intern program has been declining- less jobsite tours/community service activities, lack of communication with program coordinators, etc.

    Pros

Good work environment, friendly people, and free lunches once in a blue moon. Sometimes pms teach some good technical skills and working in the field is a good opportunity.

    Cons

Not good pay, boasts family atmosphere so they can pay graduates less. Comprised of a big company structure with slim chance of moving up besides moving to crappy locations for long periods of time to make big bonuses.

    Advice to Management

Nothing, good job so far. Good overall company

    Pros

Great company that treats its employees well. Feels like a small and large company at the same time. Certainly a company that you feel comfortable working for, and I liked all of my co-workers.

    Cons

The wages aren't the very highest in the industry, and it is very beneficial to fit the mold here.

    Pros

Great family owned company, awesome place to work if you are a PM or Estimator - lack of respect/growth for support staff

    Cons

Career growth, lack of innovation, industry is changing but we aren't on the cutting edge of technology or industry standards
