I have been working at Braun Intertec full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

There are lots of projects to work on, people are friendly, the company is growing which creates a lot of opportunity. A lot of smart people wanting to do good work. And it's employee-owned, which means it's not governed by the whims of the stock market. Plus, leadership is personable, smart and approachable. No stuffed shirts!

    Cons

    We are really busy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep focused on smart growth and supporting the employee-owner culture. Improve the benefits package, specifically PTO. Younger workers want flexibility and vacation time.

    Pros

Pros - there are a lot of people willing to work hard, fast, and long hours. Wages are competitive. Environment is mostly positive.

    Cons

Fast pace is regarded universally because of client needs, but truly could be sourced to lack of planning up front and communication issues. A lot of tenure can create roadblocks because of strong personalities and favoritism. Beware of burnout and revolving doors on certain roles.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look for managers that have vision and equity and not just speed of execution.

    Pros

Let you have lots of responsibility as an intern.
    Company vehicle with gas card.
    Bonus at end of internship
    Good work atmosphere.

    Cons

Sometimes expect too much out of intern position.
Lots of time spent in the vehicle.
    Reputation not known outside Minnesota.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep doing what they are doing. Help interns more and maybe give them more exposure to what a day in the life of management is like.

    Time with Braun

    I worked at Braun Intertec

    Pros

Competitive pay, they had a great HR department who took care of all of my needs, they also paid a bonus upon the completion of my position

    Cons

There were very vague expectations for weekend work. I was orignally told that some weekend work may be required. This turned into every weekend, and I was soon getting guilt trips about working. Pretty unprofessional.

I worked at Braun Intertec full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    > Company vehicle with gas card.
    > Housing either paid for or provided by company.
    > Annual bonuses.

    Cons

Always on the road for work with little structure and security. Very common to not know what project you're going to be on next, where it will be, how long you'll be there, when you'll be home next, and the cycle just continues. Work is highly weather dependent all year with significant seasonal variations (lots of people laid off during the winter). Low salary in relation to the work load performed and sacrifices you have to make. Huge lack in future opportunities.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Develop the talent you already have instead of consistently overlooking existing employees trying to find new ones. Employees that get praised for their good work expect to receive promotions and take on more responsibility, they don't bust ass to stay in a dead-end job.

I have been working at Braun Intertec

    Pros

Reward job performance, not just seniority.
    Family-centered benefits.
    Emphasis on community involvement.
Well integrated into the construction industry.
Wide range of technical expertise in-house, including environmental, drilling, analytical laboratory, construction material testing.

    Cons

Could use more current technology i.e. mapping and GIS.
Reputation not known outside of Minnesota.
Like many multi-specialty firms, getting different department to communicate effectively is an ongoing challenge.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Work on cross-selling between disciplines.
