I worked at Brayman Construction full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The ability to think for yourself. Managers would be there to support you when needed but let you figure things out on your own. Aggressive when they need to be.

    Cons

Compensation was sub par for the work load that is required from you. Shop/yard was completely dysfunctional. Equipment was getting up in age and needed replaced. Was behind the 8 ball with technology compared to competitors.

    Advice to Management

The managers that were in place were doing what they could to make the company profitable. Need to invest in better equipment and fix the issues internally with the chain of command. Need to make the division's more like a team instead of a competition between employees. Need to create a better office atmosphere downright miserable to be in there. Get back to having fun. When employees enjoy where they work better work is performed and profits go up.

I worked at Brayman Construction full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great projects and talented field workers. Appreciate marketing and related areas more than most of their competitors. Benefits are still good even though have declined a bit! are good.

    Cons

Employee engagement and morale is non-existent. Review process is a joke. A few power hungry executives run the show and the rest of the staff are just figure heads. Ineffective HR team and turnover in Accounting is a joke. The quality of the entire office staff has steadily gone down hill. Communications is awful and misleading. Your are told one thing and then the total opposite ting happens. People are let go for no reason even after getting great reviews and raises. Do not dare cross the owner and the Chief Administrative Office Manager is not to be trusted and is as rotten as they come. Company used to be tops but now is the bottoms.

    Advice to Management

Quit and allow yourself to be replaced! Listen to your people and quit extolling a culture of fear and uncertainty. Allow career opportunities for al not the chosen few!

    Pros

Good people except for managers Hard workers except for managers Good projects if managers do not ruin them or can actually win a bid If you are one of the chosen you are good as gold but if not....

    Cons

Management Lack of decent training Lack of safety commitment Lack of HR commitment HR nightmare and is a nightmare. Hire everybody else's garbage. Tyrannical atmosphere led by managers who are clueless.

    Advice to Management

Yes leave! Find new managers change the culture completely. Office is depressing and nobody smiles. Has gone down hill the last few years.

No cons, the experience was rewarding for my career. It was a good place to work.

    Pros

Good field people and mid-level managers.

    Cons

Nothing else good to say. Worse place I've ever worked. Senior leadership is too busy playing politics and kissing up to the owner. Not ethics or regard for the people that actually do the work. Leaders ignore input or concerns from others. Awful work environment. No leadership, no values, no direction no thank you

    Advice to Management

Start over from scratch. Quit promoting your friends and get true managers.

I worked at Brayman Construction full-time

    Pros

Pay was decent for the area. Most people were pleasant. Convenient location for commute, don't have to deal with downtown traffic.

    Cons

Office atmosphere is not very welcoming to newcomers. The phrase "stuff rolls down hill" was totally evident from the first day I worked there.

I worked at Brayman Construction full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I growing organization that captures a lot of work in the construction field and is well respected by clients and owners.

    Cons

Base your salary on at least a 50 hours work week minimum. Field salary employees often are expected to work 55 to 60 hours per week, including safety. Do not fall for the corporate, office line during the interview. Plan on working many free hours until you had enough or move on.

    Advice to Management

Be honest about the work hours and expectations during the interview process. You have trouble keeping people and they stay because they have to or want to stay in the area.

I worked at Brayman Construction full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great projects and field staff! Fair pay and benefits! Fair with time off and work conditions are ok. If you are one of the favorites you can advance if not good luck!

    Cons

Poor communication and management. The leaders (way to many VP's) are inadequate in their jobs and not respected in the industries they serve. They received their roles as they sucked up to owner. Structure of company is poor as are the mission and values which are lacking. Too much turnover and HR is a joke as is Accounting. Think they are the preeminent company and while some people and projects are great overall the company operation is poor. No direction or guidance as they "wing it".

    Advice to Management

Replace yourself with those who have a clue and be a more user friendly company. Do not look down at employees and hire people that actually care about others. Very cold, impersonal and disengaged company.

    Pros

Good pay and benefits for a smaller company. You'll certainly be stretched and do things outside your comfort zone.

    Cons

Endless pointless meetings. A toxic culture starting at the very top. No cooperation between the companies and it is designed that way on purpose to maintain control at the top. They will saddle you with all kinds of responsibilities but give you none of the latitude or discretion to achieve what you need to in order to succeed. Those who remain long-term are those who are getting paid enough to suffer through the degrading behavior by management or support staff who are willing to toe the company line. Nothing at the company is ever about what is best for the employee - they will use people until they are no longer useful to the company and then discard them.

    Advice to Management

Recognize the toxic company culture, address it, and realize that when people are constantly quitting, or the company terminating them, there is something wrong with the company, not with all the people who were good enough to hire.

I worked at Brayman Construction full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great projects (when they actually win them), some good people who care and try hard, some occasional excellent training as well.

    Cons

Management is inept and employee morale is low. HR is a waste and dishonest and company recently laid off some good folks whom they spin off as laying off due to lack of work and then they turn around and hire new folks. They seem to do this almost every year. Cold hearted managers who only care about own bonus and reputation and give no support for success. Poor work life balance and high turnover! Not winning any bids so future would be scary!

    Advice to Management

Learn to bid and estimate jobs and if you win some work learn to treat folks better so they stay. DO not treat employees as commodities especially (engineers, safety, accounting) and treat with respect. Owner needs to be more involved and replace his inept managers and VP's who are nothing but big children and poor managers. VP's are more interested in swearing and telling unprofessional jokes than actually working with their people. Poor and very oppressive work environment. Quit playing favorites and work with all!
