I have been working at BreitBurn

    Pros

    competitive compensation, good work-life balance

    Cons

old school thought process, lots of growing pains

    Advice to Management

perhaps a review of management by employees, maybe more standard ways of doing things - can sometimes be a high school popularity contest

    Pros

They pay decently and have all the nice toys for an IT dept. It's oil & gas so there's always money to be made and the profit margins can still be higher than most other industries even in bad times.

    Cons

Worked there for 6 weeks and never got access to a single application to work with. Employees are way overextended and they're not doing a very effective job remedying that. Extreme lack of effective leadership and delegation of authority resulting in major bottlenecks for many different issues.

Benefits are mediocre by oil & gas standards.

They have no problem spending/wasting money but they're not doing it in a way that provides any legitimate benefit.

    Advice to Management

Compare your spending on IT projects to your peers and consider if you're getting any sort of bang for you buck since from what I say, you're not.

    Pros

Pays well, can opt for every other Friday off, decent work/life balance, dividends (when they had them),

    Cons

Management's inability to properly do their job has created a nasty culture of backstabbing and 'throwing people under the bus" that is rampant throughout the whole company. The lack of communication from management all the way down creates a lot of anxiety and confusion for employees. If you are not in good favor with someone, it is not uncommon for managers and employees alike to get blind-sided with passive-aggressive demotions without any word from anyone, you essentially get parked......and they will continue mismanaging talent and bleeding money as a result. Aside from all of this, there is not really any process, so it's disorganized...and since people don't communicate, there is overlapping work. Good luck if you get a job there, you will need it.

    Advice to Management

Fire yourselves and let this company start all over again,
