I have been working at Brevard County Public Schools

    Pros

    Love working with the children.

    Cons

Way too much to do. You can't accomplish everything that is expected even with staying late and working on the weekends. Also, unless you have a "professional contract" (tenure), teachers (even highly effective teachers) are laid off every year and BPS hires from the outside without any regard to loyal employees. I know teachers that have had their homes foreclosed on due to this. It is common practice.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Treat you teachers like people.

I have been working at Brevard County Public Schools full-time

    Pros

You work with some dedicated hard working individuals who teach because they want to make a difference in lives of children.

    Cons

Very limited pay increase. I have taught within the district for 12 years and have only increased 3000 dollars in pay. Not even enough to off set rising costs of health insurance, cost of living, or 3% now deducted by the state. Very little difference in pay for higher education degrees such as Masters or Doctorate. Stress of pressures to have children perform on a test as well as lack of pay chase many good teachers away.

I have been working at Brevard County Public Schools full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

I'm a fairly new employee. From the get-go everyone made me feel very welcome. They made me feel like my contributions were wanted and needed, and my hard work is appreciated! Just like every other work place, you'll find all types of people, but at the end of the day everyone is working towards a common goal - providing a great education to the students!

    Cons

If you're not a student or teacher, there are many days everyone else gets as a "holiday" and you're still working. Other than that, not much else I could complain about!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep doing what you're doing - you're doing it right!
