Pros
Brickman has a lot of valuable customers, and contracts, making the work challenging. Salary was fair.
Cons
Long hours were expected, usually 12-13 hour days, with no time off when times were slow.
Company became overly focused on profit margins rather than focused on customers.
Advice to Senior Management
Focus on work/life balance and on customer satisfaction, rather than profit margin. If your employees and customers are happy, the profits will come.
Pros
THe promise of great promotions...
Cons
I was hired (with over 10 years experience in landscaping) as a landscaping supervisor. HAH, I worked my fingers to the bone digging trenches for 13 hours a day. No supervising duties and only getting paid for 8 hours a day. they take advantage of their employees and REALLY take advanage of the Spansh workers--some who have workd there for years and make $8 an hour. I would rather be homeless then go back there to work!
Advice to Senior Management
You guys need to learn how to treat yoour staff right.
Pros
Overall good reputation in some of the other cities that they own. They have guarenteed hours. There is no lay off in the winter.
Cons
The management team in Pittsburgh was not very professional and they were untrue about alot of what they said and promised. They were not very efficient in alot of the areas that one would think the obvious would happen. In other words, they did not always have the best interest of the company in mind at all times.
Advice to Senior Management
Do not ask other employees what they think of each other. That is degrading and extremely unprofessional and causes other employees to resent each other. Do not make promises that you know you won't be keeping and therefore, causing employees to not know if they are doing a good job or not because the feedback during the reviews was always different than what employees expected. This causes employees confusion as to what was expected of them and naturally their work was compromised. The Branch Manager in Pittsburgh does not have good people skills and appeared to only have his "personal" interests in mind.
Pros
Good benefits, the majority of the individuals in the company are very positive, and very happy working there. Good family atmosphere. Growing company, rapidly expanding into new areas and provides a good opportunity to expand your skills.
Cons
Some of the communication could have been handled better. Compensation is somewhat on the low-end compared with other companies in the same geographic area.
Advice to Senior Management
Better communication would help.
