I worked at Bridge Terminal Transport full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Not much I liked working here.

    Cons

Management has no leadership skills (including CEO and CFO). Not interested in their employees or what they have to say.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Show interest in your employees and listen to what they have to say. All management needs to take some leadership classes.

I worked at Bridge Terminal Transport full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Worked with some very good people on the terminal level. Interesting industry.

    Cons

Communication from home office was poor. Senior management did not listen and was not supportive. Seemingly no consideration for adequate staffing on the terminal level. Much more concern for the look of a terminal and staff than effectiveness.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Actually engage with your employees and consider other opinions. Staff to a level that allows the terminal to be effective, not what a spreadsheet says.

Better options are available than working at BTT under the current executive leadership team.

I have been working at Bridge Terminal Transport full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great terminal and sales staff across the US to work with.
Good book of business with great relationships with their customers.

    Cons

Dysfunctional, strained relationship between Corp and the terminals - starts with leadership.
CEO is not a motivator nor an effective communicator. Does not see the big picture nor have relevant discussions and make decisions to ensure the company grows and is successful.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

BTT will continue to struggle with current executives.

I have been working at Bridge Terminal Transport full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

There are no Pros that come to mind.

    Cons

Everything. Poor communication, upper management does nothing to improve working conditions. CEO and CFO are completely clueless, which resulted in Maersk selling the company. Through the years I have worked at BTT, there have been no great successes in the bottom line. The recent recession pretty much crippled BTT, as the then-new CEO proceeded to lay off 50-60% of the office staff and close terminals left & right. Subsequently, when people quit (and many have quit the place) their roles remained unfilled. I do not see BTT lasting another 10 years. Maybe 5.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Quit. Find your true calling in life, because managing this company is not it.

I have been working at Bridge Terminal Transport

    Pros

Company has a fairly decent reputation in the industry.

    Cons

No capacity to speak of for adding new customers. No training. No payment of commissions. One of the regional directors should be committed for anger issues. The new private equity group is going to suck every last dollar out of this place.

I have been working at Bridge Terminal Transport as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

Recently purchased by an equity firm, BTT is starting fresh as an organization. Ability to search out best practices as they develop and execute strategy.

    Cons

BTT has hit the ground running in terms of developing their culture and systems with it's departure from Maersk. Not all ties are severed at this time in terms of infrastructure.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stay the course! Carving this business out of Maersk and the opportunity of development of your own business model is worth the turmoil you feel now.

I have been working at Bridge Terminal Transport

    Pros

You'll learn more about trucking and small business life than anywhere else in a similar amount of time. The the wide majority of office staff and drivers there are great people, and genuinely care about you as an individual. I've never had more fun at a job than I did here. Very casual workplace, usually that's a good thing. You have a lot of freedom to manage your window the way you see fit. Management backs you 100%. Ironbound section of Newark has great food and vibrant nightlife. Frequent meetings and discussion, lends to the idea of a cooperative workplace. You'll leave the job one day with a feeling of pride and accomplishment.

    Cons

When it's bad, it's bad. Scary bad. Wild stress, extreme pressure and workload fluctuation. Computer systems are dreadfully slow. Teamwork can be strong, but sometimes lacks at critical times. You work in a trailer beneath Routes 1&9. Expectations are not always realistic, and compensation is not commensurate with the job's demands. You've got to be tough and ready or you'll be eaten alive.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on staying competitive in a changing marketplace. Current business model does not seem to be viable in a dynamic and downturning industry. Sales team and operations team need to be on the same page to better manage customer expectations.
